Tucked away on an unassuming street corner in Sylvan Park, you might drive right past the place if you weren’t looking for it. Thankfully, crowd-sourced review sites discover such culinary jewels. It was our second experience at this wonderful restaurant known as “answer.”, indeed Nashville’s best answer to the question “What is your favorite American tapas restaurant?”!
Answer. is truly a neighborhood eatery just as the founders intended in 2017, filling a culinary void between the sparse offerings on Murphy Road and the vast restaurant scene on Charlotte Pike. This tapas experience manages to be simultaneously upscale yet affordable, high-class but budget-friendly. Three in our party of four were professional chefs and gave the food rave reviews, so you know it’s good!
Their arancini is one of the best things I’ve eaten in Nashville! Like all dishes on this ever-changing menu, this was modified from its native form, clearly inspired by the popular Italian appetizer but uniquely transformed by the chef. You’ll slice through a deep-fried crispy exterior to reveal tender rice. But other flavors and textures treat your taste buds with fatty ground pork at the center.
The king salmon is perhaps the best piece of fish I’ve ever had in my 30 years in Nashville, slightly crisped on the outside, tender and flaky, full of flavor, and perfectly prepared. Unfortunately, since this was the nightly special (August of 2024), it may not appear on the menu when you go. The trout is another great option that’s more consistently offered, as are the meatballs.
The mussels are fabulous with a flavorful broth, but the fresh rye bread that accompanies the mussels is one of the restaurant’s best-kept secrets! And the dessert menu is one of my favorites in the city with nothing but great options. Answer. even offers meal packages for takeout on Wednesdays...
Read moreI am pregnant. I ordered a mocktail this evening while dining at “Answer”. Victoria, the owner, served my an alcoholic beverage by mistake. The waitress did not realize Victoria’s mistake until I had had ~4 sips of the alcoholic beverage. Instead of profusely apologizing, the owner, Victoria, offered a simple “sorry” and then later came to call me out at the end of the meal in front of my entire group for me leaving what she deemed was “not enough tip”. I explained that I felt the tip was appropriate for my experience and reminded her that tipping is up to the discretion of the patron. She then chastised me about her waitstaff relying on tips to survive. I explained that if this a concern for her, she should increase her prices and, therefore, pay her employees a livable wage or place a mandatory service fee on the bill. I again explained that the fact that she served me alcohol while I’m pregnant is a huge deal to me. While mistakes happen, she, nor anyone else, went out of their way to profusely apologize or try to make anything right about this humongous mistake. I explained that that is what drove my tip. Upon hearing this feedback, she showed little remorse and told me “lots of pregnant people drink alcohol here”. That is fine if women make the individual decision for themself and their child to drink alcohol during pregnancy, but as someone who has chosen to indulge in zero alcohol during my pregnancy, she took that decision away from me and now I have to always wonder if that impacted the health of my child. “Answer” was previously one of my favorite restaurants to dine in Nashville. However, I am just astounded at the owner, Victoria’s, attitude towards the seriousness of the entire situation and sincere lack of remorse. I will never dine at Answer again. I would urge others not to patronize this establishment...
Read moreMost seating is reserved for walk ins we tried to make a reservation but they wouldn't take it. So we walked in at 6:30 and we're told it was an hour wait. We waited and an hour later we were told 15 more minutes. After 25 minutes I ask the owner and GM how much longer she thought it might be . Her response was not one you would expect "I only called you 5minuites ago. " I replied no actually it was 25 and she proceeded to in my option call me a liar as she said no it wasn't it's been 5 minutes. The call from her saying it would be another 15 clearly showed on my phone ,it had been 25 now going on 30. Her. Reply was well we're waiting for folks to leave they have paid and when they leave we can seat you . If I did not have others with me who at this point were starving I would have just left. We finally got seated but in the end we had to take the outside seating ,even after waiting so long to seat inside it was 90 outside ,because they could not seat us inside. All this could have been avoided if they had taken a reservation . Either take reservations or don't ,but taking some and not others isn't good business. The food was very good can't take that away from the cook he deserves 5 stars but unless you are walking in with only two of you I would go somewhere else unless your not hungry, have lots of time and don't mind being called a liar. working in customer service and running my own business I would be out of business if I treated my customers this way. Even though the food was good I would...
