Since we live only a couple of miles from Sakura, it is often our go to place for sushi, and we also take family and friends there when visiting from out of town. We've always been pleased with our experience, until last night, and as a result we won't be back. We ordered Pork Gyoza for our 13 month old son, and when they came, they were deep fried. We simply and politely asked if we could have them steamed instead, since they were for our young son. The waitress asked the manager/owner, who said NO, we would have to place another order for steamed and pay for the second order. We were shocked, any decent restaurant would honor this simple request. The menu didn't state they were deep fried, and we didn't think we needed to ask. After expressing our disappointment with the owner (who went on and on about how all of her customers order them deep fried, only one customer orders them steamed (why does that even matter?!)), she offered to not charge us for the deep fried version. Due to their unwillingness to correct a simple ask (especially when it pertained to food for a 13 month old!), and charge us for the correction, we...
Read moreI really enjoyed our waiter, the timely manner of food being run out, aaaaand that’s about the extent of it.
Ordered a spicy scallop roll and it came to the table falling apart. Pieces were split open like a broken onion ring, while others lay like fallen legos.
Ordered chicken and steak hibachi as well. The steak was fine, slightly tepid, while the chicken was cold. Every piece I broke in half to make sure it wasn’t under cooked. The veggies were well made though, while the rice was like a hard stone coming out of the microwave.
I was there with a few friends, so all this can be over looked. The main issue was the bill. I ordered 2 Kieran lights and the menu said $5 each, while the bill printed $8. If it was $8 on the menu, no issue, but I felt slighted just a bit.
Even because of shipping delays or whatever you were forced to raise the price, you don’t relay that through a tab, hoping the customer won’t bring it up. Put that price on the menu or on a paper beer list.
Easy fix though, took it out of the tip. Harsh? Possibly. But so...
Read moreDrive back from North Carolina to Tulsa by way of Nashville and had to try the highly rated Japanese place. We shared a Teppanyaki Filet, Pork Tonkatsu Bento and Teriyaki Chicken Bento. We thought the salad could have used more. Basically, it was iceberg lettuce with a pretty basic sesame dressing. Given the small size of the salad, I think some effort to add onions, carrots, other vegetables and maybe another type of lettuce would significantly improve this dish. It just seemed that the salad was not worthy of effort. I ordered the filet medium rare and got medium. The dish tasted wonderful and accompanying vegetables were delicious ....the highlight of the meal. However, the steak portion was small, especially for the price. The Tonkatsu was fine, above average. The chicken was well prepared with typical teriyaki sauce. The sushi that came with the Bento boxes was marginal at best. The high rating for this place just isn't justified and for the price, it's...
