I was excited to have a locally-owned restaurant in the area, especially one that’s not part of a national chain. I've visited multiple times, and while the food can be great, the inconsistency in service and availability of menu items has been a constant disappointment. Each visit feels like a mix of highs and lows, with something always going wrong.
Recently, I decided to give them one last try. This time, I was thrilled they had the soul rolls, which were delicious, but they were out of oxtails—again. I opted to wait since they said the oxtails were still smoking. After eating my soul rolls and having a drink, I left and returned 3.5 hours later.
Unfortunately, the experience only got worse. When I returned, I confirmed with the server that they had oxtails, and I ordered them along with another round of soul rolls. The soul rolls came out, but after 45 minutes of waiting, the server returned to take more orders and realized he had never put in my oxtail order. It was another 30 minutes before the oxtails arrived, and they came without rice, beans, or cabbage. After another 10 minutes of trying to track down the server, he brought the missing sides—but they were cold, clearly having been sitting out.
When I finally dug into the food, the oxtails were mostly fat. Frustrated, I found the server to inform him, and he took the plate back. The manager came out, but instead of apologizing, she pointed out that I had "eaten half" of the meal. I explained that I hadn’t eaten anything because the plate was all fat, and I was starving. They eventually took the oxtails off the bill, but no one spoke to me further until they simply dropped off the check, as if to dismiss me.
I asked to speak with the manager again to explain just how poor the service had been. She asked if I wanted to order something else, but by then, I was done. I emphasized that I want them to succeed, but they need to fix these issues.
To top it off, while checking out, the waiter tapped my card and appeared to input information himself, giving himself a thumbs-up. When I called him out on it, I had to redo my bill. I still have no idea if it was corrected.
This place has potential, but the service and execution need serious improvement. I hope the owners read this and make changes. It could be a fantastic spot, but not if these...
Read moreTook my mom here for her 70th birthday. Overall I give it a 2 out of 10 and do not recommend. The positives was the atmosphere and drinks. The negatives are a few. It’s overpriced and we reserved a table unknowing they charge $50 just for reservation but call it entertainment which we were not entertained. Then you also get hit with 18% gratuity which was also another $50. $100 out of a $400 bill just for services which is a scam to the hardworking everyday people who probably visit this establishment. Had they disclosed that entertainment fee upfront we’d probably went somewhere else or at least just walked in and waited for a table. I wanted to bring her here cause it was close to my house and had live music which they did not. It was a party of 8 and the food came out at different times with 10-15 min between. It took 45 min to an hour for everyone to get their food. Mind you it wasn’t even crowded and we arrived at 6pm. My niece who is picky ordered tenders and fries and the tenders had a fried hair cooked in the breading. My sister is allergic to shell fish and they cook the fish, shrimp and chicken in same grease. They didn’t inform our waitress cause again she was no entertainer that they were out of oxtails which my mom ordered and yams for my sister until after the fact. The baked chicken was dry which my sister sent hers back and just attempted to eat sides and my daughter barely ate hers. I had the Cajun pasta with salmon and I had more soupy sauce than pasta and an excessive amount of shredded Parmesan. When we got the bill we was shooketh the bill said $400 smh. Let’s just say for the amount I paid I could’ve got better service at other establishments but this is why it’s hard to support a black business that does business like this and it was close to the house. I definitely won’t be patronizing this establishment again as a result. It really pissed me off cause my mom drove here from Knoxville today and I wanted to have a positive experience for her so gonna try another place...
Read moreCame here to celebrate my wife and sisters birthday. We originally were going to a different soul location--but someone recommended this would be the best (I can't compare to the other locations YET, but if this was the best, I probably won't try) Food and aesthetics were amazing! Drinks were okay. Our server-I did not grab his name but he was a white male, wore lipgloss, and had a short hair cut. --horrible. At first we were thinking, okay maybe this is just his personality but in all actuality, he was rude, dismissive, had a bad attitude. Doesn't know how to multitask, dry personality and just overall ruined the entire experience for a table of 9. We kept asking for things to eat our food and he was more focused on splitting up the check that he STILL got wrong and we all just sent our money to the correct person. At one point he told us to hold on with his hand up cause he needed to work on the check. He was working on the check damn near the whole time--all we did was ask for condiments about 7x. He kept asking the same questions over and over about who had what for their ticket and still was wrong. I mean literally smacking his teeth and stomping off. LUCKILY he had a table full of respectful women on a GOOD day--bc the disrespect he gave was at an all time high and it just started our day off bad. Also, there is an entertainment fee, not something I am a fan of. Our server was quick to let us know that money isn't for him so please be sure to tip. So you have the bill, entertainment fee, then a tip on top. 10/10 don't recommend...
