My family and I have been die hard Stay Golden fans for years but this was my first time trying the new location. I would say give it a month or two before trying the new stay golden while they work out their kinks (hope they’re just kinks!).
When my friend went in and ordered, she asked about the infamous fried potatoes (everyone in my family and friend group were obsessed with their potatoes they were arguably one of the best things on the menu). The person at the counter said they were “trying something new and doing something kinda like tater tots.” They were straight up frozen and reheated tater tots (or at least tasted exactly like them) and they unfortunately didn’t time cooking them well. I got the Jam and my roommate got an Avocado toast with egg, and when the food got to us my sandwich was warm and the tots were ice cold, soggy and bland. Plus the eggs on both of our meals were an absolute mess which was fine for her toast but it made my sandwich so hard to eat.
On top of that, the biscuit my sandwich was on was a little dry so the runny mess of eggs plus dry crumbly biscuit was not great. We also got the chocolate chip cookies because I talked about how good they were and my friend loved hers but mine was a little overbaked and dry. The cookie still tasted good though!
On the positive side, service was great and we loved the atmosphere of the new location. They discovered that they were out of matcha after my friend had ordered one, and the server came out and was very apologetic and got a different drink served to her within a couple minutes of speaking to us. Plus we LOVED the size of the porch and that we could both bring our dogs with us!
Overall, Stay Golden still has the same great service and atmosphere as always, but I’m eager to see the same quality breakfast I’ve had in the past. Also please bring back the...
Read moreStay Golden has a great atmosphere and great coffee. The food is good, although not everything on the menu is to my liking. The best thing on the menu is the biscuits, although I might be quite biased. I grew up eating these same buttermilk biscuits! My mother made them most mornings in a glass pan, her mother taught her how to make them, and now my sister bakes them for everyone to enjoy at Stay Golden! Some aspects are different as the dough is now folded many times to give the biscuits a more flaky texture. The outside of the biscuits have a slightly crusty texture while the inside is very moist. The recipe is very much so my grandmother's recipe which has been refined for the pastry bakery. (My grandmother measured nothing!)
To see where these biscuits have ended up makes me smile. My grandmother was a very hardworking woman who raised 10 children in a small house in WV. My grandfather was a WW2 veteran and a lumberjack. They always had a very large garden and lived life rather old fashioned. I think they got running water and a restroom in the house somewhere in the late 80s or early 90s when I was quite small. To say these biscuits have a humble start is an understatement. My grandmother passed when I was 12. She made these biscuits every single morning without fail until she simply could not get out of bed just 2 weeks before passing. These biscuits are truly special, and I am happy that so many more people get to enjoy them!
What the biscuits are missing are my grandmother's apple butter!! My grandmother's apple butter is the best ever! Maybe Stay Golden would be interested in sharing that with Nashville as well? The Apple butter was made to go perfectly with the biscuits, and I would love to put those two...
Read moreAfter a few bites of food into our breakfast, we asked each other how we had never heard of this wonderful place. I joined a friend here for one of my monthly breakfasts and we happened upon this place from a random mention of it by one of her friends. Again I ask: how has no one ever told me about this place?
The place itself is super cute with multiple areas for seating. You are immediately ushered into the "order here" space when you walk in the door, so the flow works very well. You order your food and are given a number and directed to where the table is, and despite the fact that there is no "table service," there are plenty of employees walking around and able to help if needed. There is also a QR code at your table through which you can order additional food or drink and have it delivered directly to your table should you find out that the massive amount of food they brought you the first time was not enough.
Seriously, the portions are huge. And one of the most exciting things for me was that they have gluten-free biscuits! I was able to get a biscuit meal at a restaurant. I got the green eggs and ham, which is a delicious play on the book. My base was a delicious gluten-free biscuit onto which they added ham and eggs with a chimichurri hollandaise sauce. You read that right. It was absolutely delicious! My friends got steak and eggs, and everything looked like it was cooked perfectly. She was not able to eat all of her food. Quite honestly, I probably should not have eaten all of mine...
This spot will definitely be added to the regular breakfast rotation....
