Authentic place for Filipino pastries. Over 30 years this mom and pop shop has been here. Always a line, always worth it. Definitely recommend: “hot pandesal” ( Filipino sweet bread) You can ask for per piece, half a dozen, or a dozen Ensaymada Siopao( steam bun with meat) Mochi donuts

There are tons of Valerio’s branches, but this one is by far the best of them all! Everything tastes fresh and authentic—definitely a cut above the rest. I always make it a point to drop by here whenever I’m in San Diego. I really hope they open a branch in LA someday! 🙌

The iconic spot for hot fresh pan de sal that’s delightful with a little butter. There’s also traditional Filipino dishes, pastries and snacks that are all tasty. It’s been a mainstay in National City that’s owned and run by the family it’s named after. Good people!

I feel so disappointed with the result of what becomes to chicken Afritada after it was prepared so deliciously by the cook at Valerio (at 8th street next to “Gulong a tire shop) Store owner must instruct their crews serving at the steam line that the steam keeping them warm will continue to cook those poor chicken Afritada & turn them into shredded chicken gravy. The crew must know that steam temperature keeping them warm will turned as hot as 100°F, please instruct the people at the front to watch the temperature of the steam table bc temperature at the steam line could go as high at 100°F+ that will continue cooking the chicken & will result tearing chicken meat apart, the poor chicken Afritada will turn into soggy syrupy...

It's been about a couple of years that I stopped buying pan de sal. I used to buy pan de sal at Valerio next to Tita's but for some reason the quality of their pan de sal was change. The texture of their pandesal is like a week old. So yesterday it is been raining all day and I'm craving for pan de sal to go with my hot coco so I went here in Valerio in 8th St hoping that I will get a better one but it is the same. I don't know what they change in their recipe because the texture is dry. I was going to give it to my neighbor but Im afraid they might return it back to me. I guess Im just gonna stick to my hawaiian roll till I find a good pan...

I don't know about the other guy but I don't think prices are at all high. I always get a good meal for my dollars worth. If you ask me its the best filipino food in town. I too was laid off in 09 and had to leave SD because a previous employer wanted me to run a store in Palm Desert. I wish I could have packed Valerio's in my luggage because there is no filipino food out here. Whenever I'm in town I always try to make a trip to my favorite turo-turo for...
