ACTUAL STARS: 2.5 Stars OMG, what has happened here at Guy Fieri's El Burro Borracho located in Harrah's Laughlin Hotel? I used to look forward to eating here when we came for an overnight or the day. This restaurant was the best and only place to enjoy a good meal at Harrah's. We would always order the same thing, Strawberry Margueritas and Chicken and Shrimp Fajitas for two. We also loved their chips and salsa with added Chamucus Hot Sauce, which were unsurpassed anywhere. This meal was always reliable, tasty, and served by pleasant waitresses in a friendly atmosphere.
We were at Harrah's in Laughlin a couple of days ago and specifically went for Caesar's [weekly] gift that my wife gets so excited to receive. On the other hand, I think it's a waste of gas to drive two-hundred miles round trip for a $20.00 hand mixer (or like), especially since gas prices have hit more than $3.00 lately. You have to spend over $50.00 in gas (I need $3.75 91-octane gas) to get that gift. Long story short, we negotiate for the meal at El Burro Borracho, and I'm happy to drive the 200 miles for the mixer.
When we arrived, the wait was almost two hours to get a table. With the new limited seating regulations, I couldn't very well blame the restaurant. We did some gambling. My wife did; I'm only there to watch. Less than one hour later, I received a text that our table was ready. Okay, they're new to the seating time estimates; again, not a big deal, nor would I mark this down as a negative.
Here's where it all went sideways. The $14.00 Strawberry Marguerita ($12.00 with Caesar's Rewards Card) was nowhere near as good as it used to be. It tasted more like a strawberry slush that you get at a Seven-Eleven Store. The Chicken and Shrimp Fajitas were even more atrocious at $30.00 for a single serving and tasted more like [even not as good as] a fast food place like Taco Bell or Del Taco. The chips and salsa tasted as if they came out of a package, and there was no Chamucus available. Even worse, I saw that they were limiting chips given to the people across from us. Finally, there is the service, which might be in part is due to the pandemic, but that is no excuse for poor customer service. The bottom line here is, until and unless the food and service get better, I won't be returning to El Burro Borracho at Harrah's Hotel in Laughlin, NV.

Read moreI remember eating at this location shortly after it had opened many years ago. It was not a good experience back then, so I avoided it for years. Anyway, obviously years have gone by and I always saw people packed in the restaurant. For some reason today, I gave this place another chance. I was blown away! After talking to the hostess and telling her my bad experience years ago, she said they have gone through several menu changes. I started to perk up. I asked her about some of her favorite items from the menu. She didn't look like she had tried almost everything on the menu as she said. Looks are deceiving and her metabolism is probably faster than mine due to her younger age. We talked about spice levels and had the same thing to say when it came to that topic. I was feeling pretty good after talking with the hostess and finally decided to be seated. I ordered the Jalapeno Poppers and the Birria Tacos. My Jalapeno Poppers arrived first and I was surprised by the presentation. These are not your typical poppers where everything is stuffed in a jalapeno and fried. They are flautas and cooked perfectly. The flour tortillas that were used were light and flaky. They weren't greasy. The amount of "heat" was just right for my personal taste buds. The hostess couldn't have been more right about the spice level. The dipping sauce was excellent to "cool" down the "heat." My Birria Tacos arrived shortly after I got my jalapeno poppers. It looked great. Finally! Tacos that had meat! They weren't flooded with diced raw onion and cilantro. At the price I'm paying, I want meat, not produce. Anyway, my only complaint would be the charro beans. I'm use to charro beans being served in a small soup cup or any small bowl for that matter. Charro beans are similar to a soup consistency and not topped with cheese (sorry Burro Borracho). The shredded meat in the tacos was tender and flavorful. Once again, I have to give thanks to the hostess for her recommendation. My server Samantha was very attentive. I ate my meal early before there was much of a crowd. As I said earlier, this place is always packed. The hostess happened to see me after she seated others. I showed her my take home box was filled with her recommendations. I was extremely satisfied and promised I'd...
Read moreCelebrated my mom's birthday at the Laughlin location. We had high expectations given the name and representation. The food was not good and no one finished their plate. The staff was very friendly, but the service was mediocre, maybe there was a shortage of staff, but we had one waitress who seemed to be very overwhelmed. We were a party of eight and we were put in a back patio that was enclosed where the larger parties are placed for seating. The ambiance is not at all what is presented in the inside of the restaurant where it's much prettier. The drinks were okay. The Mango Margarita was good. The Strawberry Margarita's were not. We ordered guacamole and chips, the avocados tasted as if they were going bad and there was no flavor. Plates ranged from fajitas to tacos and chicken quesadillas, the meat was flavorless and had absolutely no seasoning, there was a special salsa that you had to pay extra to order, which we did and it was just, well, to be blunt, disgusting. The meat had a lot of fat and gristle. It just was not at all good. Would never go back and completely disappointed. It was a chore just to get reservations. So being that in addition to the name and how difficult it was to get reservations, my expectations were that, the food must be great and this must be a really great restaurant! We were all excited to try it. Guy Fieri is supposed to be a well-renowned chef. I can't imagine that this is the standard that would be acceptable for his food. Will never go back and extremely...
