This was a conflicting experience. The food, what we got of it was very good. The piri piro shrimp appetizer was excellent, the flank steak with endives and brocolini was very good. Unfortunately our meal was ruined by a server who was either inexperienced or just didn't care or pay attention. This was our wedding anniversary meal and she pretty soundly ruined our evening. She took the appetizer order and after my wife asked if she could substitute the side ordrers on her scallop meal she was told by the server that there would be a 5 dollar upcharge for the substitution. My wife said that was a bit silly but then said ok fine. The server then walked aside away without taking my order and didn't come back until we flagged her down after she brought drinks to another table at which time I told her she never took my order. She seemed puzzled but took the order. The appetizer can't out and it was very good. The my dinner order came out but not my wife's. We assumed she would be right back with my wife's order but she wasn't coming back. At this point my food was getting cold and we finally flagged her down . We asked when my wife's scallop meal would be out and she replied "oh i didn't think you wanted it because of the upcharge" . At this point I asked her if she seriously thought that I was going to eat and my wife wasn't? She looked puzzled once again. I explained that this was our anniversary and if she could please get the food out to us as quickly as possible. She ensured us she would. At this point I was finished with my meal and my wife still hadn't received hers. My wife was over it at this point and I had to go find the server and ask her to just box it to go. I let her know that she really demolished our anniversary meal to which she answered I'll take the second meal off this bill. While this didn't fix it, this point i was just over it. When she finally did bring the food out she left the check on the table and never came back to collect the tab and i had to go inside( we were seated outside)to pay the bill. As I stated earlier the food was good but I honestly can't remember an experience with a server that was any worse. She didn't know the menu, (when asked about the brown butter Belgian endives she told me it was a sauce that went on the meat) I pointed out to meet that it was listed as a side order and she said she would ask what it was. ( never did). I'm generally not the type to complain but this experience was bad enough to make me write this review. To the owner of this otherwise really nice establishment I'd say train your server's better. They can make our break your reputation and this server definitely could hurt your reputation. Maybe she was just having an off night. But on this night she was completely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLooking at all these reviews, I must have had really bad luck. The Portuguese steak was awful! Truly awful.
Let's talk about the good first. The service was good. The bartender may not be super knowledgeable about the beer they serve, but overall, good service provided by the two bartenders I encountered. The atmosphere was relaxing for me after a long day of outdoor activities.
Let's talk about the Portuguese steak. The potato was probably the best on the dish. The broccolini was alright, nothing special. The egg was kind of between over medium to over hard, not sure what it supposed be.
The meat was the worst. I wasn't impressed by its texture. It was just like a cheap piece of meat. Not really worth $33, in my opinion. But, okay, somewhat edible, I can live. That's not the worst part. The worst part was the smell. It had a weird, disgusting smell as I cut the steak. Ammonia was the first thing that came to my mind. I did try to eat it. It didn't taste spoiled or anything, just a piece of not so great meat like I mentioned before. The smell... omg... the more I think about it, the more disgusting I feel. It's like the bathroom... more like porta potty... that kind of smell... Honestly, I was surprised I ate the majority of it. Now, as I'm writing this review, I feel sick eating it.
Their kitchen was closing, and I was kind of tired, so I did not bother asking for something else. I did let the server know about the smell, but I guess nothing else was done from what I've seen other than a "sorry".
So, sorry from my end as well... I'm...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI arrived at 12:45 where I went to the kind of hidden host station. I was greeted by a really friendly member of staff. She immediately sat me and brought water for my four other companions who had yet to arrive. I was hungry so I ordered an empanada. The "To Go" area had a couple of different kinds. The server recommended the Chicken Mozambique. The other options were a Big Mac or Caciola (Porc). The server put it into a Q oven. It was done in less than 2 minutes. It came out piping hot and I had to let it cool. I give it the empanada maybe a B+. The dough was overworked and dry. This caused the empanada to split even prior to going into the Q. The filling was okay. Now I also tried the Mongolian Beef skewer. It was a solid A. The meat was seasoned great. The meat was tender. My friends arrived. They had wine. I had a Velvet Elvis. Peanut Butter Whiskey, Banana Liquor, Vanilla Ice Cream...Elvis would approve. During the meeting We shared the hummus, eggplant, merquez (lamb sausage) with na'an. It was a solid A. Over all the bill came to 10.00ish for empanada and skewer. $80 for drinks and app. The tip comes on the bottom of the receipt. Lunch...
