Found this little jewel online looking for a day trip brunch place out of town, but not too far from home. (Emerald Isle). Met immediately by friendly "WELCOME IN, HAVE A SEAT WHERE YOU'D LIKE". Almost immediately, we were brought menus on neat little wooden boards tied together with old hemp twine, fresh water, and an offer to acclimate us, as this was our first time in. The menu was large but only offered many forms of toast. Savory, sweet, salty/sweet, different culture themed toasts. (lasagna toast, gyro toast with hummus, and Tadziki, for example). Breakfast and lunch menu. It was difficult to decide, but I bet any choices we might have made, we would not have been disappointed. We chose 4 different toasts to sample. They offer many types of bread to choose from for your foundation. They have a large adult beverage & tea menu also. We chose one from each. All fresh ingredients and tea leaves were free steeped in a real tea ball and glass kettle. Accompanied with the tea was your very own tea sand ⌛️ timer, so you'll know exactly when your fresh tea leaves have steeped to perfection. Dessert was fresh brewed, YUMMY black, strong like an ox 🐂 coffee, just the way I love it with a coffee cake and bread pudding. I will say the dessert cakes were our least favorite part of this adventure. They were tiny bit dry and bland. Unexpected as the rest of the meal was a home run. We dismissed it as possible at the end of the week dessert weekend servings. Either way, we weren't mad at anyone. It's totally worth the drive, and I'm surely going to be going back very soon and taking friends and family.
PS Another perk to this place is its excellent location, old downtown close to great shops, and the Tryon palace old NC capital history and close...
Read moreI was in from out of town and my friend (who is a local) and I were choosing a spot for mid week lunch. We chose this place based on the ambiance from reviews and generally because it has basically perfect 5 stars. And it did not disappoint! We brought my friend's two kids and (to be clear, while it was not busy) the kids enjoyed dancing to the music while we sat and enjoyed a drink. I can't say enough good things about the menu. I had the Cherry Rosemary Old fashioned, my friend had the dragon fruit basil smash. Both drinks were absolutely amazing. My friend is gluten free and was able to order a gluten-free toast while I had the sourdough. We both ordered the highly recommended goat cheese, avocado, mango salsa and bacon topped toast. Overall, the entire ambiance combined with the service and the food, I really wish that this place was in my hometown so I could continue working my way through the menu. I loved that they had comfy seating options around a coffee table, tables alongside regular tables, and casual seating options with couch as well. The entire place is decorated and themed around the fact that it used to be a pharmacy. Overall, absolutely loved this place. I know I already said that but I can't say it enough. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town! See photos for the drinks and toast ordered...
Read moreIf you are a tea lover, this IS your ONLY choice for a good loose-leaf tea in New Bern. Do enjoy during daytime/brunch-time, and you will likely be as delighted as I was during my first-time visit. 🦋🫖🍵
Early is better. Saturday-7pm. was a completely different place than Sunday-3pm. Both times were equally full, all tables busy. In the daytime, servers were on top of it, and the wait times were ok. Saturday night, on the other hand, was chaotic. Only three employees (+1 at toast station) were playing all the bases: bartending, taking orders at bar and tables, serving toasts and drinks, cleaning up a broken cup out front, and cashiering. They need at least three more employees on that shift. Customers got anxious waiting to get service. Once the first lady got up and placed her table's orders for toast and drinks at the bar, other clients followed her like a mob. The place suddenly lost its charm. The server that had brought out my butterfly pea tea didn't bring out the timer and looked very tiered. No longer could she come by, so I walked up to the bar too and requested a resteep and a to-go cup.
This cafe has fallen prey to its own success. Being the newest bar/eatery in a tiny town where nothing happens, it has gained a lot of customers and quickly surpassed its own capacity to maintain...
