Cow Cafe — Restaurant in New Bern

The owners sent me a nice message after a bad experience in the evening. I have been to the cow cafe multiple times during the day and they do have the friendliest staff during the day. The older gentleman with the grey hair I've only seen during day time (not to be confused with the older person I had this evening) visits is the nicest most helpful person. I had an issue with the evening crew. I personally think their ice cream is amazing and the meatball sandwich I had there once was better than any meatball sandwich or sub. I'm from Texas, so meatballs and meatball sandwiches aren't a thing back home. I changed my rating from 2 stars to four because the place really is good and everyone deserves a second chance who genuinely cares about what their customers have to say and I believe the owners care.

I've been here a couple of times during the day where the staff was wonderful. I just walked out. While I'm looking at the menu the young kid behind the counter was laying his head on the cash register. The other older guy seemed to be upset about something and was not friendly or welcoming in any sort of way. I felt like I was truly a bother and they just wished I would leave. As I walked into Cow Cafe for the first time, I wasn’t particularly impressed. Atmosphere was pretty average, and I was expecting a lot more burgers from the menu. I settled on my specialty, some chicken, specifically a chicken bacon ranch sandwich. I didn’t like the fact that my sandwich came with chips instead of fries, but I ordered and moved on.

I sat down with my family, as we were celebrating Christmas with my mom, and looked at my sandwich that was so plain in appearance. Hunger was setting in, so I decided to plunge in. In that moment, everything changed. What proceeded was the most wonderful combination of melted cheese and ranch like I have never experienced in my entire life. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and so tender and juicy. It was almost New Years, and I had already started my New Years resolution to lose weight and stop eating out so much. This sandwich almost made me break my New Years resolution before the year even started. I could have ordered and eaten at least two more. Although the restaurant was pretty plain, overall all, the sandwich easily shoots this review up to 5 stars.

As a summer visitor to New Bern, I’ve heard from a few people that this place was great to hang out and experience a local business with terrific food. So, imagine my disappointment when I arrived at the shop at approximately 8:15 PM last night only to be ignored. I walked in, and there were one or two tables with customers who had their orders. I walked up to the ice cream freezer, and there were two employees behind the counter. Neither of them acknowledged me. In fact, the female employee was more concerned about filling up the tea machine than taking my order. She walked by twice and said nothing. There was also a young man behind the counter, who was scooping ice cream. When I said hello, he gave me a blank stare, and didn’t even respond. Instead, he turned his back on me. So, I stood there for five minutes, feeling awkward, waiting for either of them to acknowledge me, and neither of them did. So, I would like to have said that I thought the ice cream was awesome, but this was not the southern hospitality I was expecting. I walked out without being served. I was certainly not...
