If you're looking for a restaurant that combines mouthwatering food, delightful atmosphere, and downright hilarious adventures, look no further than East Side German Restaurant in New Britain, CT! This place has become an annual pilgrimage for my partner and me, and let me tell you, it's an experience unlike any other.
From the moment we step foot in this German gem, we're transported to a world of authentic flavors and belly-aching laughter. The food is so delicious that it's like a symphony of sauerkraut and schnitzel dancing on our taste buds. Seriously, if you're not drooling just thinking about it, you're missing out!
Now, let me tell you about my favorite time of the year to visit: my birthday in May. It's become a tradition for us to celebrate with a bunch of funny hats and a legendary boot of beer. Trust me, if you've never raised a boot of frothy goodness to the sky, you haven't truly lived. It's an art form in itself! And let's not forget the hilarious incident that unfolded during one of these celebrations.
Picture this: a table full of friends, the accordion player cranking out tunes like a rockstar, and my best friend and I engaged in the epic Battle of the Knit Socks! You see, my talented knitter friend and I decided to see whose creation would conquer the boot. It was a fierce competition, with yarn flying everywhere and hilarious sock-stretching maneuvers that would make any circus performer proud.
As the crowd cheered us on, the tension in the air was palpable. Would my partner's whimsical plaid masterpiece slip on smoothly, or would my striped wonder prove to be the ultimate victor? The suspense was unbearable! In the end, we all erupted into laughter as both socks clung desperately to the boot, refusing to let go. It was a tie, but in our hearts, we were all winners of the Great Knit Sock Showdown!
But enough about my unforgettable memories; let's talk about the real showstopper at East Side German Restaurant—the guy who rocks the accordion like a superhero. I swear, he must have struck a deal with the accordion gods because he transforms classic tunes into epic performances. I mean, who needs Tony Stark when you have Iron Man on the accordion? It's a spectacle you absolutely cannot miss!
So, dear readers, I implore you: drop whatever you're doing and head straight to East Side German Restaurant. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is lively, and the laughter is guaranteed. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion, engaging in sock-wrestling shenanigans, or simply craving an authentic German feast, this place has it all. Just remember to bring your appetite, your dancing shoes, and your sense of humor. Prost!

Read moreHaving dinner there last night made my whole month! As a first generation American with a German father and Austrian mother. This place made me reminisce on my childhood when my dad (RIP) took my mom and I to German restaurants, namely Rudy's in New Milford and Hopkins in lake waramog Connecticut.
This restaurant is so authentic You would think you are in Germany! From the theming, to the extremely elaborate German menu, the accordion player playing German music, The lederhosen the men are wearing and the dresses the women are wearing.
The owner and staff are so nice, everybody greeted me with a smile and a hello sir.
It took me 20 minutes to decide what I wanted to order as there was so many amazing choices that I had growing up. The moment I sat down they brought a nice German salad and cheese. I ordered the potato pancakes andI decided on the Sauerbraten with spaetzle. Came with really nice carrots and amazing sauerkraut. One of the best I've ever had and that's saying a lot! Additionally I need to note that all the meals were under 30 bucks, today's day and age that's completely unheard of!
This place is an absolute gem! Sadly the German population in Connecticut has dwindled significantly since my childhood and there are almost no true German restaurants left in the state.
If you like German, European or just really great food, definitely check this place out. Can't wait to come for the Oktoberfest next month. The owner explained what they do and it's going to be like a true...
