Let’s start off with the beer. The signature brew Steeple is a light offering of a New England IPA. Good front IPA taste and a very light juice taste on the back side of the beer. I like this beer since other juice IPA’s seem to take that haze over the top. The Marzen (spelling) had a good spice and overall good flavor to the body. I also tasted a Kolsh (Kinet-Cut) and Pew Pew. Those were ok at best.
The pizza was good, but you are competing with excellent pizza 10 min away. To be fair this is a new oven and the staff is figuring it out. My pizza the whole top ring of crust was burnt. I asked and was told this is how it’s cooked. Since the brewery is on the second floor, food truck offerings seem difficult at best. You will most likely be stuck with pizza and pretzels only.
The staff. This was truly an awful experience. I asked the bartender about the beer, bar and brewing. All comments and replies were terse and even combative. I finally had to ask for a check after 2 flights and 1 beer (I didn’t finish either fligh). I would think the staff of a new brewery would be trained enough to speak about basic beer knowledge. I was wrong.
Finally let’s talk location. I really liked entering the brewery through two church doors, as it shows thought to the name of the brewery. I overheard a conversation between 2 patrons staring over a million dollars was spent on the renovation of the building for the brewery. 5 Churches is a beautiful space with high ceilings and it feels open and airy. It would be a great place to have a party, but the actual location in New Britain is not great. Parking is 150 yards down the street if you can’t find curbside. This walk highlighted the area of where this brewery is located, and that is not a good thing.
Summation: Beer - ok.. but in my opinion there are better offerings at Back East, New Park or Kinsman. All of those are 15-20 min away. Food - limited options Staff - really bad experience ...terrible is the best I can say Location location location - not great area

Read moreThis is a nice brewery to visit if you're in the area! They opened the end of March 2018. They named the brewery 5 churches as you can see 5 steeples of churches from their windows. They have a nice variety of beer available and have a nice open and clean area on the 2nd floor! They do have an elevator if you are unable to use the stairs. We really enjoyed the steeple people beer (imperial ipa) and also liked onomatopoeia (imperial ipa), and the microphone smells like Idaho (imperial ipa). Of course, the name of their beers are great and creative! We also enjoyed their pretzels and pizza (only food that is served here)! They have a wood fired oven and make personal pizzas which were very tasty - we had the mushroom and garlic pizza. We also had the everything pretzel with beer cheese and mustard which was fabulous! The pretzel was really fluffy and chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside-perfection! The dipping sauces (beer cheese and mustard) provided were also delicious!! They also sell soda or wine too if you do not want to drink beer. The staff is friendly and wonderful here! We would certainly visit again if we are...
Read moreMy wife and my experience during our first visit to 5 churches brewing. First a little about us. We both enjoy craft beer and visit multiple brewers on a regular basis like Kinsman, Better Half, Clocktown, Brass City, Fire Fly and so on. We walk into 5 churches and comment how beautiful the front doors are. We see a sign saying tap room upstairs. We say this place is awesome. At the top of the stairs there is another sign that says please seat yourself. So we sit and say to each other, we picked a good time. It's not too busy. I'm looking around checking the place out. I see a couple of bartenders and what I thought was a waitress. After about 5 minutes of sitting there I start spinning my cell. After 10 minutes I start a timer on my cell. The bartenders see me, we made eye contact. Not one staff member said anything, not even Hi, is this your first time here. After another 5 minutes we decided to go to another brewer. I really enjoy their beer and will buy occasionally at my local package store, as for the tap room, no thanks. They don't deserve...
