I specifically stopped at the New Glarus Bakery to purchase a special birthday cake for my mother's 80th birthday only to walk in and find the cake display dark and frosted over so that the cakes were totally non-visible - couldn't see the designs, colors, decorations (if any), sizes, etc. I got very cold vibes from the workers who were not welcoming at all. Then one of the gentleman asked if he could help me. I asked what kinds/flavors of cakes they had since, again, I could not see anything to go by. He opens up the doors to the freezer/cooler and starts reading off the different types of cakes. I told him that I was texting my family to ask their opinion and could only remember three of the types. I asked him if he could tell them to me again and I got a pretty "put out" vibe from him. He tells the flavors to me again and I choose one. He does not show it to me (as any other bakery I have been to will show it to you and ask if it is satisfactory). He kind of tosses it on the back counter and asks me if there is anything else I needed. I was a bit taken aback that I wasn't asked if I wanted anything written on it, or decorated, etc. So I asked if I could have some writing on it and, fairly bluntly, asked what I wanted. I proceeded to tell him what I would have liked written on it and he by no means made it clear that he could only get four words on it. So, as I am trying to come up with something special for my mother's 80th birthday, and I'm trying to decide out loud, he stops dead in his tracks and turns to look at me and gave me a look, head tilt and attitude of..."really lady - make up your mind" type of gesture. He proceeds to call someone to take care of the writing and brings it out and, once again, sets it on the back counter and doesn't even bother to ask if it was "okay." To top it off, for the outrageous price for a cake this size (1/4 sheet), it was very low quality. Had I thought sooner, I would have said "you can...

Small, but oh so mighty. We stopped in on a recommendation from a friend, and it was the best decision we made. The worst decision we made was not finding the time to come back here to get more treats before we went home!

The place is relatively small, but they had a really good variety of baked goods, from chocolate brownies to coffee cream cake to crispy and savory bread sticks. They also had coffee and hot tea for sale, but we stuck to the sweets! We ordered an almond horn, cream horn, and a "bee sting." The prices were pretty good as well, and we could have (and SHOULD HAVE) ordered more goodies.

Almond Horn - This was a pretty good horn. I think it just paled in comparison to our other purchases. It was flaky and light, and was a solid pastry horn.

Cream Horn - The cream. Let me repeat. THE CREAM. This is by far the BEST cream horn we had ever had, and it almost all comes down to the decadent cream inside. Sure, the flaky and crispy pastry was the perfect vessel, but its the copious amounts of lightly sweet, super silky, melt-in-your-mouth cream that stole the show. AMAZING.

Bee Sting - I'm done. This was so good I just can't stand that we don't live closer to this glorious little bakery that could. The top is a honey-almond topping, the middle is a THICK layer of buttercream, and the bottom is some sort of yellow cake. I couldn't believe the buttercream on this thing. The layer was so thick that I was a little worried at first, because buttercream can be cloyingly sweet sometimes, but this one was sheer perfection. It melted in our mouths, revealing a slightly sweet, lightly buttery flavor that was just unmatched by anything. It even beat the cream horn cream! It was that good.

We were unbelievably impressed by this little town bakery, and would highly recommend that you stop by if you are anywhere close to New Glarus. You will NOT leave...

We worked with New Glarus Bakery for our wedding in August 2018. We were very impressed with the cakes that we received for our wedding day and with the overall service provided. We called the Bakery about six months before our wedding and set up a tasting. This involved picking out 6 cake and filling combinations and picking up the prepared “tasting cake” to try and home. After trying the cake, we selected our favorite flavors and set up a meeting with the Bakery to discuss our order. We met with the owner of the Bakery, Angela, who walked us through all the options for our wedding cake. The meeting was very helpful and allowed us to see all the options in person and ask questions as needed. We ended up selected a two-tiered cake for cutting and several sheet cakes for our guests in a variety of icing flavors. We also decided to have the Bakery deliver the cakes to our reception venue, which was a huge help on our wedding day. There was a small fee for this, but totally worth it to us. On the day of the wedding the cakes were delivered as expected and looked beautiful. The cakes tasted amazing and the variety of flavors was a big hit with the guests. We would gladly recommend the New Glarus Bakery to anyone looking for an amazing cake and fantastic...

Went in because I had a $5 birthday reward today. Left with... a lot of stuff. I haven't had anything here I didn't like. I especially recommend the raisin pumpernickel, that is one of my favorites. Also any of their cheesecake and schnitten varieties (available by the slice, sold by weight) are delicious. Like any bakery you'll do well to be the early bird, but with a day or two of notice you can order online and pick up whatever you want.

No need to travel to Switzerland when you can get authentic, delightful Swiss delicacies in New Glarus, WI. Becky and Kathy show two of their many Swiss bread selections. They also had Linzer cookies, Anise Springele and Bienenstitch. (Hope that last one is spelled correctly...) If you're in New Glarus, or passing through, be sure to stop in and grab a true Swiss treat!
