This place has a lot of regulars, so my review probably won't be taken seriously, but here goes. If you want burgers, this place is okay.
First thing I noticed is they have the bartender doing everything. She clearly looked overwhelmed the whole time and one couple had to move from a table to the bar to get any kind of service.
Second, the currywurst. It should honestly be taken off the menu. It's an insult to currywurst. The sausages were fried to death and tasted like dry, overcooked bologna. Then they put a sprinkle of sauce on there. If you've ever had currywurst, you'll know they're usually drowning in the sauce. I thought it was a sad amount and asked for more. They said they were out.
Fine, I tried to eat it with some ketchup and mustard, but this was practically inedible. After getting through some of it, I couldn't eat it anymore. I asked the bartender if she could comp the meal since they never communicated they were out of sauce, and she asked if I would do 50%. I suppose I did eat roughly half, so I thought that was fair. The owner said extra sauce is a courtesy, so they won't do it. They offered me a drink chip for one free drink.
So you want me to come back for one drink after I ate that dish? Yikes. I just paid the full bill and left. It was too much of a headache to argue after sitting around for slow service for so long. Once I'm back in the area, I'll go anywhere else. Maybe don't offer German food on your menu if you have no...
Read moreAfter biking 23 miles on the scenic Sugar River Trail, we treated ourselves to a well-earned stop at The Ott Haus in New Glarus—and wow, what a reward! We ordered the WISCO Burger, which recently won the 2024 Best Burger in Green County, and it did not disappoint. Juicy and flavorful with crispy bacon, Spotted Cow–sautéed onions, cheddar and muenster cheese, all on a pretzel bun—perfection! We swapped in cheese curds on the side because… when in Cheese Country, right?
The drink highlight was discovering the Wisconsin Belgian Red Brew. My husband is a cherry fanatic, and this beer tasted like cherry pie in a bottle. It was so good, we stopped at the grocery store afterward to pick up a 4-pack!
The Ott Haus has a cozy pub vibe, friendly service, and delicious food and brews. We'll definitely be back after...
Read moreWe stopped at the Ott Haus Pub after a days ride on the Sugar River State Trail, and it was the perfect choice. The location is super convenient with plenty of parking, and the Swiss-style entrance immediately sets a welcoming tone. The staff made us feel right at home, and we enjoyed the option of outdoor seating on such a nice day.
The food was excellent—our burgers and fries were cooked just right, and we started with onion rings that were crispy and delicious. To top it off, they serve local favorites from the New Glarus Brewery, and enjoying a cold Spotted Cow with our meal was the perfect way to end the day. A great stop we’d...
