Caliente Deli — Restaurant in New Haven

Service was great from the moment I walked in. Everything looked delicious and the smell was even better, unfortunately the taste wasn’t. I ordered a paper steak combo (white rice, red beans, maduros) price $41. I thought it was a little expensive too but now in days everything is high in price but I did expected to be taste for that price. Rice was was smoked, from the time I opened the container the smell of smoke was strong. Red beans was really like I expected, thankfully beef was a little taste. I think I might got in the wrong day, it was Sunday and it snowed the night before so I believe they couldn’t sell most part of the food and need to be resell for the next day which I don’t mind but if your rice smoked, for the respect of your customer it should have not been resold again. I also ordered a chicken soup and chicharrones (fried pork skin). Soup wasn’t as bad as the chicharrones were, soft and grease. Again I believe I went on the wrong day because I do see people going in and out and a lot of deliveries being sent out so I believe most people like this food. I might give the another try in the future but so far it was the worst $75...

They are my life savers over the weekend i had Catering Services from another restaurant and they screwed me over and canceled the day before the event. I ran over to Caliente Deli to see if they would make the entrees I needed they were very understanding they took my order and info they were very polite and accommodating they offered to cover the event I was so grateful that they were able to do it was for my daughters Sweet16 that was already in the works for weeks they were my original choice bc their food is soo good I love everything they make there los maduros rice my favorite candy chicken, Pernil and the fried chicken was a hit at the party the was the first to go. They have great customer service hands down by far the best for local spanish food spot taste like home..they really came to the rescue if it wasn't for them Catering my event it wouldn't of been pretty especially getting turned away with no notice from the other establishment..all can say is Muchísimas Gracias por Sus Servicios Se los Agradezco un montón.. You have one happy and satisfied customer Definitely i would go everyday if I could and Im picky cant get...

The food wasn’t worth it. First I was charged $21.59 on top of $18.06 for a canceled order. Which was exactly the same order-it was no sweat off their backs-they lost nothing. I think they could have at least gave me the food - instead they kept the money and food!! A woman from the restaurant called me-asking why I reordered, she then knew it was my order, and specifically asked if I canceled the 1st- I said yes. Well, my card was charged for both! I called back- asking for the food if I was gonna be charged and she said the order is on the way- Where’s the integrity? ESP they served me a bunch of fat instead of the pork shoulder MEAT. So a total of 40$ I got one lunch and avocado salad. Don’t get me started on how small that is..

It was 1st time eating here and last. It’s so disappointing. I’ll keep ordering from Collado restaurant on Washington Ave. They serve big portions, food is on point, convenient location and price is more than fair.
