Forget everything you think you know about bagels in New Orleans. I've traversed this city, a culinary cartographer charting the landscape of flavor, from the hallowed halls of Laurel Bakery to the hidden gems tucked away in forgotten corners. I've sung the praises of many a sandwich, but let me tell you, my quest has finally reached its zenith. I've found the holy grail of bagel sandwiches, and it resides at Flour Moon. Let's talk specifics. The classic breakfast on an everything bagel, with bacon – a seemingly simple combination, yet executed with a mastery that borders on the divine. This wasn't just a sandwich; it was an epiphany. The bagel itself, a chewy, flavorful masterpiece, a testament to the artistry of hand-rolled dough and the subtle sweetness of Louisiana cane syrup. The bacon, crisp and smoky, a perfect counterpoint to the bagel's subtle sweetness. The symphony of flavors danced on my palate, a culinary ballet that left me speechless. I've tasted the best the Big Apple has to offer, and Flour Moon stands shoulder to shoulder with them, perhaps even surpassing them in certain respects. The location, too, is a stroke of genius. Nestled near the vibrant Lafitte Greenway, with the added bonus of Hey! Cafe right next door, it's the perfect spot to grab a bite and soak in the unique New Orleans vibe. Flour Moon isn't just making bagels; they're crafting edible works of art. They're not just serving sandwiches; they're delivering experiences. If you're looking for the best bagel sandwich in New Orleans, your search ends here. Flour Moon has raised the bar, and I, for one, am a convert. Go. Now. Your taste buds will thank you.

Busy bagel shop just south of mid city, they specialize in sandwiches and tartiness. Honestly not sure the difference other than the later is served open faced? The 1st time I came in the early afternoon to sweat it out with the rest of the late risers. The line was out the door but moved fairly quickly. There's a good brewery next door, don't be afraid to grab a drink while you wait. We kind of went crazy with our order as we were hungry and everything looked good. Ended up with a lox and whitefish sandwiches, a roast beef and their special tartine that day. Did have the roast beef but I know everything else was damn good. The special was on a sesame with a shrimp and crab salad with sliced radishes and some other goodness I don't remember. The lox was smokey, and sweet and briney. It hit all the notes. The bagel themselves were really good too. I'm not sure I've had an everything bagel with fennel, but it wasn't overwhelming and added an interesting note. My only complaints were that my bagel was slightly soggy. That was one juicy tomato on my whitefish sandwich, but the shrimp salad was a little wet/loose. I rectified that on my second visit by just getting an everything with cream cheese. They're not cheap though, so this may be more a special occasion than a normal stop whenever I visit.

I assumed they just forgot that I ordered lox cream cheese and put on regular cream cheese, but when I went to ask for it to be remade with lox cream cheese I was told that "the specs of pink are salmon." turns out.... Flour Moons "lox cream cheese" is the absolute la Croix of flavored cream cheeses. It looks and tastes like they accidentally mixed 5 crumbs of salmon into a pint of bland and chalky cream cheese and called it a day. I got mere glimpses of whispers of salmon and a whole lot of bland lemony milk. I've had the beet and horseradish cream cheese before and enjoyed it. I've also had a bite of some of my gfs bagels when she gets them here. Never had issues before. Would come more often if it weren't so spense. The restaurant's assertion that this is acceptable lox cream cheese cements my belief that this place is overpriced and not worth it. Thank you for the refund. I was not offered a remake of the bagel. I was told "Do you see the pink specs." I saw the specs, said "those??", ate a bite of the cream cheese, made a frown and said "that's your lox cream cheese?" And then he said yep. So I walked out of the restaurant. I would've gladly taken a remake.

In New Orleans, where heat embraces the air, Amidst the sizzle and the sweltering glare, A line snakes along with eager souls in tow, Waiting patiently for bagels that steal the show.

Under the sun's scorching, relentless rays, They gather, undeterred, in this fiery haze. A 117 heat index grips the day, Yet their spirits dance, refusing to sway.

Oh, the lure of these bagels, a culinary delight, Their reputation echoing through the city's streets at night. Golden crusts, chewy centers, a taste so divine, A symphony of flavors that sends taste buds a-sign.

With each passing moment, the line inches ahead, As anticipation builds, hearts fill with widespread, For in this moment, time becomes a gentle breeze, As love for the bagels brings everyone to ease.

Conversation sparks like fireworks in the sky, Strangers become friends as moments slip by. Laughter intertwines with the melodies of the street, And friendships are forged in the sweltering heat.

The aroma wafts on the humid, vibrant air, Teasing, tantalizing, weaving dreams beyond compare. Sesame, poppy seed, and everything in between, A culinary masterpiece, a sight to be seen.

Finally, the moment arrives, they reach the door, Salivating taste buds ready to explore. Their patience rewarded, their longing fulfilled, As they step inside, the heat now chilled.

Bagels beckon from behind the glass, An array of choices, a savory treasure amassed. With each bite, the city's soul they embrace, A blend of culture and flavors, leaving no trace.

And so, in this city of vibrant charm, Where heatwaves dance, and love takes form, The line in the scorching heat is worth the wait, For New Orleans' bagels, it's a heavenly fate.

They stand, outdoors, their hearts full of glee, For the best bagels in the world, you see, In New Orleans' heat, on a 117 heat index day, They find joy in every second,...
