Order: Mexican breakfast, Tartine breakfast, Green drink, Cappuccino, Cranberry blueberry poundcake, Coconut chocolate chip muffin Price: $34 Pros: Seating, clean food, Cons: Parking could be difficult

Thoughts: Satsuma was recommended to me by a server from the Rum House, as his “go-to” for breakfast and I’m really glad I took him up on the suggestions. It’s a bit odd to describe food as “clean” but that what their food here evoked. It was simple, incredibly flavorful, and fresh. There is no way they are making any of this stuff the night before, it all tasted like it had literally been harvested that morning.

Contributing to this farm fresh atmosphere was there outdoor seating. I was pretty hard for us to find anything green and growing in NOLA but their outdoor patio was like a small oasis of green. There small plants growing all around the area, which was fenced off from the street, creating the feeling of eating breakfast in a small garden. I could absolutely see myself just sitting here for hours, drinking coffee and doing work or meeting with friends. When it came time to leave I was actually a bit disappointed.

We had also picked up several of their pastries to go since we were headed to the Aquarium for the day and figured we’d need some food. Surprisingly the muffin and poundcake were good even serval hours later so I imagine they would be wonderful if eaten fresh.

Would loved to have come back to Satsuma, and probably would have if we had known about it earlier in the week but NOLA is so full of such amazing food that trying to find the hidden gems like this gets challenging. But Satsuma is well worth the challenge, so get over there and give...

Please understand that I am rating this establishment as an ethical vegan, and that my opinions may differ greatly from regular patrons who do not prioritize non-meat and non-dairy menu items…

Clean, with cute and relatively comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. I was happy to see at least one non-dairy milk option for coffee. Lemonade was tart and fresh, and the drink menu was larger than I expected, in a good way. However…

No paper/physical menu on hand for visually impaired/disabled customers.

Did not currently have tofu, which was the only vegan protein/egg substitute (besides beans, but you can’t make a tofu scramble with beans!).

No vegan sandwich options.

The only salad option (out of two) that was reasonably vegan-adaptable was the Mediterranean quinoa salad, and despite the large portion, it was lacking in flavor and I took the remainder of it home to add-on to myself.

The chili avocado toast (ordered and eaten by a friend) was interesting, but unbalanced. A single slice of what looked like bleached white Bunny bread (although the menu boasted “sourdough toast”) was topped with perhaps 1/4 of an avocado, covered in an unnecessarily wide trail of chili oil. As a vegan who can certainly make similar at home, I have never found restaurant “avocado toast” worth the hype or the price (that sentiment remains), but my non-vegan friend wanted to give it a try and did at least enjoy the flavor combinations.

The blueberry pancake (ordered and eaten by a friend) was large and fluffy. Enough to enjoy twice, some bites at dine-in, whilst...

*Update While there was delivery through food apps just last month, Satsuma is not able to do food delivery for some reason. Whoever the man is that answered my call 2 weeks ago, is not someone I would hire or want touching my food. It's unfortunate that people bring their misery into service business. The rest of staff is excellent.

I used to frequent Satsuma when I lived in Bywater years ago. I loved the food and vibe there. I was happy to return since moving back and ordered the Breakfast Burrito for delivery and than dined in with my dog within 2 days because I was craving that burrito and the salsa it comes with. The staff here is so kind and go beyond what I expected. Peter is jovial and treated us like a house guest who needs for nothing. The man washing dishes in back was singing with the music so well, the soul was felt. That's great vibes I want around my food ! I have got the green juice twice also and got that to go because I couldn't Not, try the lavender coffee. Also got warmed blueberry muffin with butter. It's was a real blueberry muffin as in, it tasted like it was homemade with whole ingredients. Of course it was so delightful. My dog was given a treat the first last week also. Sweet. They still have books on a shelf here and the places is so spacious and comfortable to stay around. With outdoor seating for pets, I appreciate havens like this. Always will...

We visited Satsuma Café in the Bywater on a friend’s recommendation, and what a hidden gem it is! Tucked away in a quiet corner, this café offers both delicious food and a peaceful, cozy vibe. I have a nut allergy and was relieved to find the staff incredibly accommodating. They took extra care to make sure my meal was prepared safely and without cross-contamination. My son had his eye on the green eggs and ham, but it came with a basil pesto made with pine nuts—so we flagged that early and they were very careful from there on out. I ended up ordering the burrito—the salsa that comes with it ties everything together beautifully! My family also enjoyed a pancake and a croissant egg and cheese sandwich, both of which were big hits. We sat outside in the courtyard, which was quiet and quaint, with birds hopping between the plants and trees. It felt like a little oasis in the city. If you’re looking for a relaxing spot with great food and staff who truly care, Satsuma is a must-visit in New Orleans.
