Much ado about nothing...
I went with my better half to view the Ramones photos. Or at least tried to. It appears to have been was a good turnout. However it’s pretty easy to Google “How To Light a Photo Exhibition.” The pictures were lurking in the shadows and hard to see with the caveat of leaning over seated patrons to attempt to get a closer view. I don’t expect museum caliber arrangements but giving half a damn more wouldn’t take much more effort. I felt sorry for the photographer.
Speaking of giving a damn - or rather not - we tried to sit and get a snack and drinks. While nearly every apparent staff made eye contact, they had other obviously more important things to take care of rather than basic service. Maybe we should’ve tried to find the dishwasher. I don’t know if this was a busier than average night, but at least acknowledge your would-be patrons who might actually spend money and leave tips or change the setting to a member-only clubhouse. So much for the lost opportunity to gain new patrons and grow your customer base. We noticed we weren’t the only ones being ignored.
I’m a native New Orleanian - this is Restaurant 101 stuff - smile and greet your customers and try to get to their needs as soon as possible. If you’re busy and/or understaffed, fine - but take care of business. The basics. I don’t expect red carpet/white glove service - just get me a menu and take my order. We would’ve had better luck trying to get a drink from a neighbor wino. Can’t say I could particularly care about returning except to try and view the photos at a later date with my wallet staying firmly in my pocket. Almost a complete waste of time and effort - we drove an hour from home for this?!?! Slam dunk bullshit - top to bottom. I’ll gladly take my hard earned money elsewhere. Which is...
Read moreThis is an eclectic a little eatery in the Bywater district of New Orleans. We ended up here after the power went out for several blocks around our intended dinner spot. We were directed here by the locals from that restaurant and needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised! They offer several craft cocktails as well as a selection of bottled/canned beers. I had the Tiki Farm Basil Curry, which is a vegan green curry with tofu that was well prepared and delicious! There were a couple of other vegan and vegetation options on the menu as well. A friend ordered the Vasco de Gama Bouillabaisse and enjoyed it, but said he was not sure about the flavor combo, which was a lemon grass infused, Asian leaning concoction. My daughter had the Farmer's Salad and the Heritage Berkshire Pork Chop accompanied by a Burmese-spiced coconut based sauce. Both were fresh and delicious. Our only complaint was that the menu was a bit scattered. Italian mezze, Thai curry, farmer's salad, pork chop, Portuguese bouillabaisse, Asian fish cakes. I understand the whole fusion movement in dining, but not sure that they had it quite right. That said, I would definitely give this place another try. It seems that the menu changes and I would love to see what they come...
Read moreMeh, this place is overpriced and the portions are too small. One thing I also found frustrating is the menu in general, I'm all for trying new and interesting foods but the menu here changes in it's entirety every week. If you're someone who enjoys food that's unknown as far as quality or flavor then the Russian roulette of this restaurant's menu is for you. They apparently never repeat the same recipe twice which makes me think they aren't too sure of what their restaurant's style really is. I think I would have enjoyed this place more if only a section of their menu changed but to have the whole thing change is a little much and I personally don't like being the guinea pig for an entire new menu every time I visit. The drinks were decent enough and well priced which is why they get 2...
