I was really looking forward to going to The Country Club based on positive reviews and recommendations from several friends. Most of the reviews and recommendations were based on brunch. I couldn't get a brunch reservation, so I opted for dinner thinking that the food and service would be just as good. Unfortunately, that was not at all the case.
When I made my reservation, I asked for outdoor seating so I could be by the pool. When I arrived and checked in (after waiting about 5 minutes for the hostess to return to the front desk), I found out that for outdoor dinner seating is only available on the front porch. Maybe not as nice a view, but still OK.
I was seated and then waited a bit long for water to arrive. The wine list (by the glass) was decent and I ordered a Montepulciano from Italy. The waitress brought me a glass of white wine and seemed confused when I told her that I ordered a Montepulciano. Once I told her that I ordered a "red wine" she understood that a mistake had been made and asked me to point out the wine I wanted on the menu. The correct wine arrived shortly. Not the best Montepulciano I've ever had, but not terrible.
Warm bread and butter arrived about this time and, sadly, was the best food of the evening. The bread was crusty outside and soft but chewy on the inside. Perfect!
I ordered the Crabmeat Beignets for an appetizer. They took a while to arrive, but not overly long. Unfortunately, I would call what arrived more of a fritter or coquette rather than a beignet. While you could taste the crab, they pieces were overcooked on the outside to the point of almost being burned. They were also very greasy. The green leaves and onions on top were the best part of this dish.
For the main course, I ordered the Oysters with Capellini. It arrived in a timely fashion and looked nice. Unfortunately, the oysters varied from almost raw to overcooked (to the point of being tough). The sauce was thin and mostly devoid of taste. The mushrooms had the most flavor.
Service was spotty throughout. Not terrible, but definitely not great.
I may go back for brunch sometime, but dinner is not in my future at The...
Read moreI would give 0 if I could. Everything looks nice, but it is a complete facade. Rude staff and bad food made this a terrible experience.
My partner and I were attending a private post-wedding party here at the club. The hostess was kind and did what she could, but she doesn't make the food. The food was decorated pretty, but tasted bland at best, and actually terrible tasting for the most part. I had the BEAT and the bread was stale and egg was cold. The strawberry shortcake bready-biscuit tasted terrible.
Now the biggest disappointment was that we came for a spa day after a wedding. They did not tell us in advance that we needed to provide photo ID for the pool -- despite the fact that they didn't card for drinks.
We are international travellers who have no other photo ID than our passports. Surrendering passports is a huge security issue. We cannot do this -- our passports are locked in the safe at the hotel for our security and prevention of identity theft. We offered alternative IDs and even phones for collateral, and they would not accept.
Now, this would have been less of a problem had it been handled kindly. One of the staff was kind enough to escort us to the pool so we could find the groom and tell him we weren't able to join the party.
Jon, who appears to be maybe manager?, was incredibly rude to us as we were attempting to summon the groom with our staff escort. He told us we couldn't be back there and started forcing us to leave as we attempted to explain that we had escort, we were trying to communicate to our party that we were leaving, and we were asking questions to understand why ID was needed to see if we could offer alternatives.
Instead of being kind, or even expressing any sort of empathy (which the other staff member was kind enough to do), he just continued to berate and demand that we leave the premises.
All in all, I would never return. There are no redeeming qualities -- the pool area was not clean, the food terrible, staff was rude. I feel so bad for the few kind people that do work there and hope they can find work...
Read moreWe went here on Sunday for the Drag Brunch. Living in New Orleans we sometimes take things for granted and not appreciating all there is to offer us. That’s why when having company from out of state we venture out on some new activities. This brunch was a definitely a good time! We were a party of four and made reservations about 10 days prior to our company coming. Seating was a little difficult because tables are on the outer sides of each room so the person with their back to the isle, walkway, doesn’t have the best view and this seat doesn’t have a back to the chair. We were probably some of the oldest people there for sure so this detail may not be a huge deal for most. We ordered a craft of Bellini's, they could have been a little sweeter- 🍑 and an Expresso martini 🍸 that I was told was pretty good. Food; appetizer was the fried green tomatoes. Theses would have tasted nicer if the tomatoes were cut thinner. Entrees two orders of chicken and waffles, crab cake with poached egg and salmon with zucchini. The chicken and waffles were pretty dry. More syrup was needed and our table wasn’t the only table asking. The crab with poached egg was nice except there is a lot of breading to the crab cake. I didn’t enjoy the red sauce that it was on top of. However the egg was done perfectly. The salmon entree was much enjoyed by this guest and I was jealous I hadn’t ordered that. No one ordered dessert except a double expresso. We were all quite full……. Portions were plenty adequate. The wait staff were very friendly, attentive and eager to be accommodating.
Now for the main reason for our visit to The Country Club. The performers were a lot of fun to watch and very engaging….. if you wanted to be.. Very impressive that a few of these performers were so flexible. 3 performers and two numbers each changing costumes in between. So much fun and very enjoyable. We will be bringing our guests here again. Thanks for being such a...
