I had the pleasure to order from Shug's yesterday. It was a bit hectic, but it was lunch rush, so that was expected. Despite it being crazy, staff served up smiles with the orders. I had the turkey club on a jalapeño cheddar bagle and it was delicious! The bagel was fresh and sat proud on the wrapper upon opening. I only intended to eat half and save the other half, but I ended up eating the whole thing. The proportion of toppings (lettuce, tomato, mayo, and meats) to bagel were perfect. My meal was rounded out with a chocolate muffin, which was perfectly moist and flavorful. I only ate half of the muffin and will have the other half with my morning coffee. All in all, I traveled 25 minutes from the Westbank to go to Shug's and it was well worth the drive. I will be going back again.

Today was my first time going. I heard about shugs from @crescentcitycigars and decided to try this for breakfast. I ordered the shug hot on jalapeno bagel. I was extremely happy to see they made the bagels in house and the baker would discard the ones that didn't meet standards. The ordering process was smooth and they were slightly busy but I would assume very normal for this style business. My order got lost amomg they others (the only negative from today). The coffee was great and bagel was phenomenal. I would definitely try this place again. Because it was that good.

Ugh I'm so disappointed. Born and raised in New York City. I know bagels.(And sadly NYC bagels aren't all good these days). This is a glorified roll. Tastes like every other chain bagel you've ever had. No chew to the crust. Fluffy inside. No flavor to the dough, tastes not much different than Wonder Bread. I'm sure they make fine bagel sandwiches. But if you're looking for a bagel to toast and have with butter or cream cheese, go to Flour Moon (whose bagels are truly exceptional and better than most of what you get in NYC currently)

the good: its cute

the bad: cost ~$50 for two sandwiches, they had very little options for bagels by the time i got there 12pm, they charged me for basic toppings on a lox bagel? Also the place was way too packed for comfort, there was no room to stand, much less walk.

Mostly Tulane students were there, which also made the place super loud and you had kids yelling across the shop to get another persons attention.

The sandwich itself was okay, but I can easily find other places that would taste better, cheaper, and have a table to eat at.

the hype is because it’s new, not nessicariky because it’s good, sorry.

Also, driving there felt like off-roading and definitely did some damage to my suspension, uptown/tulane/Audubon area is a nightmare to...

Shug's brings solid breakfast options to the neighborhood. The bagels have good flavor but tend to run dense. Toast them well and you'll get a nice crispy exterior that makes all the difference.

Skip the bacon sandwiches though. The bacon tastes microwaved and ruins an otherwise decent sandwich. The pizza bagels surprised me in a good way. The menu offers plenty of variety, which I appreciate.

One heads up: the dining area has a persistent burnt toast smell that I found a bit overwhelming. My hair smelled like burnt toast all day. Fortunately, they offer pickup orders, so you can grab your food and go.

Overall, Shug's works well for a quick breakfast pickup, just manage your expectations and stick to the...
