We drove 45min because we saw the good reviews. Well...we walk up to the counter not sure how or what to expect. The person at the counter just looked at us we let her know it was are first time here no reaction just waiting for are order. We were trying to order they had customers behinds gave them their order and came back to complete our order. My husband ordered 2 tacos one pastor one steak and a tamale. (Green) I ordered 2 tacos one steak one Pastor and one tamales (red). Well I got one taco and a green tamale. When I mentioned it to the cook she said the pork is red the chicken is green. That was the end of that. I went to throw out our garbage they were talking about it I in return said to her she did not explain that she offered to change it once I started to walk away. I said I already opened she said that's fine. But not in a good way. They come to the table asked me for the opened one in exchange for the green one. Hospitality/Customer service not their thing. I will say the tamales are huge full of meat. Dough is more on the crumblie side.(I did not like it and did not eat it) the taco were ok lots of meat. The tortillas are really good. Both the green and the red hot sauce are great. Does it matter if we don't come back properly not people...

I usually really REALLY like this hidden gem. Quesabirria Tacos, steak tacos, beans and rice, and churros. However, my experience today was a bit uncomfortable. I ordered my food, and asked for a bowl of salsa ($7.00), hold the chips, as I thought i was taking it home, so i wanted to make fresh chips. I kater changed my mind, decided chips now sounds good, so asked them to add the chips back on. $4.50 MORE?? Evn if I already paid $7.00 for a small salsa? So $11.50 for chips and salsa? No, thanks. I asked them to just refund the salsa, maybe next time. That caused a complete shift in how i was treated and I really didn't feel as though they appreciated my nearly $40 for JUST MY LUNCH (with 2 bottles of soda and tip). I ate almostv1 of the 3 tacos and most of the beans and rice when I realized.... it's just not THAT good! I left it sit and excused myself. I'll not return. But, their food is very good, just too expensive to not be treated kindly. This was the first and only time I was made to feel unwelcome here. Hope the next person's experience is vetter than mine. Their portions are VERY large as well. I recommend, just hope they fix their...

Had a craving for Mexican food today, and when the best-closest place wasn't open decided to give Tacos El Chapo a try, based on the image they had of beautifully fresh tacos and other reviews, "Yeah, they're in a Shell gas station, eat there anyway" and wow - it was amazing.

I tried Birria for the first time, and they were sfutted all the way through with beef, had great flavor and toppings. I especially enjoyed the brown salsa and the raddishes on top - great flavor and good crunch.

My partner got a burrito with some extra ground beef, which I thought would be incorporated into the burrito, but was served on the side. He put it on top, along with more of that flavorful brown salsa and found it very tasty.

Chips were pretty standard, but their salsa was super flavorful.

Only comment I have is that I'd have liked more of both the salsa with the chips, and the brown salsa which accompanied both dishes.

This is our new favourite Mexican place, and we...

First and foremost, I just want to say that I've been searching for good Mexican food in Florida for years, and Tallahassee was the only place that I knew of that had a decent spot (only went there once due to living in Pasco). El Chapo is inside a gas station, which I already knew was going to be good! The young lady that assisted us, was patient and shared some history about the food we were ordering, which was a plus for me. We ordered a Carne Asada Torta, a couple of Burritos, some Chicken Empanadas, and a Churro. You're getting better quality food for their price point, and a nice sized portion might I add. I'm a big guy, and I was only able to eat half my Torta, and snacked on the other half throughout the day lol. Me and my family thoroughly enjoyed the food, and plan on coming back soon. My only complaint is this, I wish we would've gone earlier in the day to try their tamales and the steak empanadas. Please give this place a try. 💯

It's inside a gas station so we ordered to go. It is very pricy for the area and to go food but it was great. They have some tables in the back. Tamales were almost $5 a piece, but they were gigantic. The masa was more crumbly than I've had, but the pork was soooo delicious. The largest tamales I've ever seen! A churro was $4.50 for 1 piece, which I thought was way overpriced. The lengua tacos were great. My husband said the best lengua he's had. The carnita tostadas came with 2 huge portions for just under $15. Although not a place we would frequent, due to price, we will come back for sure. The ladies were super nice, too. They cook everything on the spot, so you have to wait, but I did hear people call ahead for pick up.

The food, with its restaurant-grade quality, especially the tacos and street corn, exceeded expectations. The atmosphere, despite being in a gas station, was surprisingly free from the typical smells associated with such places. While the presence of a volleyball team hosting a car wash fundraiser was a bit annoying, it didn't significantly distract from the overall experience. The only downside was the persistent requests for donations from adults, accompanied by disapproving looks. Despite these minor inconveniences, I'm inclined to return for lunch due to the exceptional food quality. And yes, guilty as charged – I couldn't resist taking a bite of the corn before capturing the photo!
