They give you nice fat chunks of gyro meat here, it's excellent. My wife and I had a Chicago dog, pizza puff, bomber special, onion rings, Oreo shake. Everything was very good and the prices were fine. Bomber Special and Pizza Puff were my faves. Great dive vibes; it's a tiny 8-stool bar with a little TV in the corner. Playing tennis when I went (hell yeah)
The gyro meat was chunky and had a good bite, and with BBQ sauce on the bomber special it was insane. The onion rings are breaded and I personally prefer battered, but the breading was even and fried well, and the inside was all beautiful stringy onions. Pizza puff was fantastic, great cheese and sauce ratio and really satisfying bites all the way through.
Chicago dog was good, they use a poppyseed bun (I'm sick of going to spots with regular buns, this is a real dog) except I think the sports peppers were a little heavy. Tomatoes were a little light, but I prefer that. Oreo shake was excellent, it was creamy and a little icey in a good way
The guy was really nice too. He was great at interacting with the customers that were interested and laying off the ones just trying to enjoy their...
Read morei came from highland park to wilmette to try chuck wagon since people were saying how good it was. i came with 3 other people, and after all of us ordered our food about to pay, they see our debit cards and tell us they only take cash. nowhere in the "restaurant" did it say that only cash was accepted. you would think that if they don't have a credit card machine, then you would have a sign or at least something saying what type of payment methods you accept. we had to walk a few blocks down to the bank to take money out of the ATM. so when we finally did get our food, we all looked at it in shock. we could have gotten better quality food at BURGER KING and paid a lot less. it ended up being over $30 for 2 cheeseburgers, chicken fingers, 2 fries, and 2 drinks. not to mention that the chicken fingers looked like frozen fish sticks...they were tiny! i would not recommend this place in the least bit. SAVE YOUR MONEY!! go somewhere with...
Read moreI was watching a local Chicago food TV show that recomended the Restaurant for their special the "Niky" burger 🍔 . Unfortunately the TV show glorify the burger more than it was really worth. My burger was very dry, the fries where overcooked and the vebrage was flat. The meal was over price since it is located in wealthy Wilmington Chicago suburb. One can get a better meal and better price value at a Maxwell hot dog stand.
The interior of the restaurant was very small and poor maintain. One wall was full of old photos full of dirt and oil. I expect all restaurants management to have a food establishment spotless clean specially after the quarantine.
Defenetly a local place, that people might visit for the nostalgia. Keeping it classic doesn't mean to keep it classic down to the founding dirt of the grand opening back 40 years ago.
I would not recommend to go out...
