i was ther with my family to celebrate fathers day, we saw on the internet nice menu, and beautiful ambiance . we were greeted and seated, then the server come, very casual. so we order, we order the chefs tray cause it is really nice from the pictures, we ask for luch menu and its not available on week ends. so we settle for pizza, the spicy sopresata, the pizza is so soggy ,watery, the dough is soft, its really bad pizza, so we order a diffrent pizza this time a white sause pizza, it come out the same, our server is up and down and passing us, we have to really catch him, he will ask us are we ok, yes we are ok,he should ask us if the food is not ok. we pack half of it and and we order dessert, Tiramisu, it was horrible... it was also soggy, and sour and the topping is so thick like they are covering something, so we send it back, i told my wife not to complain about it, cause we are trying to enjoy our day, cause ita so beautiful. what makes us do this is that when they gave us the check , they took off the dessert, but write at the bottom of it.." desserts on us, enjoy" i say to myself, what do youmean enjoy, we didnt eat it, its sour what do you mean enjoy?! we are good people,we dont want freebees, we pay our bill even we didnt like it, and we still tip him, and thats what we get? i think even we are not regulars we should be treated the way a guest should be treated, cause all new comers could be a potential regulars. for a $200 lunch, a little courtesy, and attention should be given, not pampering like a king ang queen, just a little attention to the food before they even serve it to the guest, after all, from the chef, to the manager, to the supervisor ,to the server, all this person is responsible in checking if the food is acceptable or not to be serve, in this case none of them did. so sorry. but this is what happen. and at the we didnt make a scene, no complain, pay our bill, and tipp our server, like a guest or costumer should. thanks for...
Read moreI’ve been to Napolita several times, and what strikes me is how different my experience is depending on what time and the context of when I go.
When they are in the full swing of Friday night, there is a noticeable dip in quality. The pizza comes out over or under done, and the ingredients are placed seemingly at random. The tables are packed together far too closely, making the noise intolerable at times. When crowded the restaurant is cramped, and there is no waiting area. They need to remove some tables for breathing room, get rid of all seating in the front room (besides the bar seats), or both. Another solution is a different building, but I’m not sure that’s feasible. Though there is some wonderful space next to an apartment building a few blocks away.
However, my experience on a Sunday afternoon was totally different. The staff seemed more relaxed and happy (thought they did a great job on a crowded night as well though). The pizza was delicious and seemingly made with care.
Some constants in these two experiences are fresh, high quality ingredients, and great service. Without the crowded tables/chairs, this would be a 4/5 restaurant.
As for takeout, the pizza doesn’t travel well, though it’s preferable to tolerating the irritating ambiance. It becomes soggy by the time you get it home, and there’s no delivery.
Overall, 5/5 for the non rush hour experience, 2/5 for rush hour, and 3/5 for the the takeout. One of my favorite upscale pizza places, and I hope they can iron out...
Read moreI have been to this restaurant many times in the past few years. I also lived in Naples, Italy for 3 years, so I feel very qualified to pass on my opinion of Neapolitan pizza. Starting with the antipasti (appetizer), the Arancini are decent. The inside of the Arancini is a little bit mushy, but it's still very tasty. As for pizza, they do a decent imitation of the Neapolitan style. The crust is probably the best part and is well prepared. The sauce, cheese and meat are all well made, but are a little bit too Americanized. It's difficult to recreate most of these ingredients outside of Italy. Overall they do a pretty good job. So why only 3 stars? Well, a few of the times that I've been here the sauce has been a little too burnt into the crust. This shouldn't be the case. The sauce sit on top of the crust in original condition, unburnt. Also, they have issues with their menu. They list all of their antipasti (appetizers) as "Primi." In Italy, Primi is essentially pasta, or sometimes known as the first course. List your appetizers as Antipasti, not as Primi. The quality of service here is also a bit suspect. I have been to this restaurant at times when almost no one else is there, and have had problems receiving quality service. Outside of Spacca Napoli this is one of the better Neapolitan Pizza places in Chicagoland, but has some...
