My family has been going here since me and my sister were little. I'm 27 now and up to march of 2020 we've been going back to their smorgasbord on the weekends. I've called multiple times to ask when they would bring the buffet back and each time nobody was sure when they would bring it back. Up untill recently I found out they WON'T bring back the smorgasbord. Which I find very disappointing. My family has been great friends with Lee, the old owner of Happy Joe's and I'm sure if he was still in the business he wouldn't let the smorgasbord go to waste. We're from Mankato and would go here frequently. It's just sad. On the bright side of this review, you do have delicious pizza, we just want a taste a bit of everything. But we haven't been back since the closure of the buffet. I hope I see it reopen soon...It's been way too long. At this rate you'll just be a memory fading away... For now...

We showed up at 3:00 p.m. on a Saturday. I came to pick up some frozen pizzas for our long drive ahead. We live in Nebraska and we were in Minneapolis for vacation. I guess I should have checked the hours that's on me, but I was just assuming that they would be open at 3 pm for dine in eating. I wish I could give a better review because my Dad and Grandma grew up on Happy Joe's and were ranting and raving about how good it was, but I won't be able to experience that and neither will my son unless we eventually make another trip up and during the hours where the dining room is open. I was underwhelmed by the staffs kindness and blank stares. After reviewing the info on Google maps it seems your not open for...

I was seated by a 14 year old kid I walk to the bathroom located the back of the restaurant, 3 or 4 teenage employees sit at tables to converse about highschool drama and relationship issues and gave an awkward silence as I walked by them.

The taco pizza is all hype no bite..

I'll admit, they stacked it high with toppings and gave us plenty of extra sour cream but the meat was not great quality and it didn't taste good, it was just a mouthful of lettuce and a little salsa they bought from someplace already made...

I know those kids did not make

This place was hardly worth this review honestly...

I just think I am responsible for letting others know...

Had not been to a Happy Joe's since 1974. What great memories evoked at the New Ulm location! Logos and graphics of Happy Joe were fun to re-experience. The Pizza was generously topped and the crust was crispy on bottom and tender on top. The ice cream deserts were huge and priced very fairly. Our server was attentive and really made us feel welcomed. New Ulm and Happy Joe's is a destination for a June road trip.

Pizza was fine, chicken was very good, chocolate malt was excellent! One bite everyone knows the rules, 4.5 would go elsewhere for pizza, but it was decent enough to eat, not bad in any real way, not remarkable in any way. I do give them credit we ordered light sauce and some places struggle with that and they nailed it. Also I'd go back for pizza, if I got to have their ice cream for dessert.

Hard for me to say but Happy Joe's be pretty average Joe's. Went in the door and wasn't sure what to do, seat yourself or what...so I asked the person at the register. Dining in it was and had to order my food and pay before getting said food!! Ordered house salad which looked delicious!! And actually was! The smokehouse burger was good but not overly flavorful. Service was pleasant.
