If You find yourself in a charming Great Kills neighborhood of Staten Island, a world away from the city's frenzy, don't shy away from Da Damaso on Amboy Road. Tucked away like a hidden treasure, you spot this gem, a little Italian restaurant that delivers a taste of Salerno. The charming atmosphere and aroma of home cooking with the scent of family welcome greets you at the door, pulling you into a cozy space that feels less like a restaurant and more like a family's gathering.
The menu is a love letter to the owner's hometown of Salerno, with dishes you won't find at your typical Italian-American joint. Each plate is a masterpiece of authentic, high-quality ingredients. Every dish we have tried so far tasted like it was made with a secret family recipe passed down through generations.
What truly sets Da Damaso apart is the warmth of the family who runs it. They treat every guest not just as a customer, but as a long-lost relative returning home. The owner’s son, who served us shared stories about the dishes. This isn't just a meal; it's a full-on cultural experience. You leave feeling not only incredibly satisfied but also like you've been adopted into a new Italian family. The owner/chef, his wife (that cooks as well) and the oldest son who always greets you with the smile are incredibly charming people.
If you're looking for an authentic taste of Southern Italy without the plane ticket, Da Damaso is the place. It’s an unforgettable experience that will transport your taste buds straight to the...
Read moreI went to Pierogi Island with my good friend and daughter this weekend from Brooklyn to try Polish food for the first time. I was beyond impressed with the entire experience!
First off - the ambiance is amazing. I felt as if I was at someone’s home, having a home cooked meal and felt cozy. This is definitely a place to bring your family to dine.
I tried both the BBQ chicken and Mac & Cheese Pierogi’s, and they were very flavorful. The BBQ chicken was my favorite, as it was full of flavor and melts in your mouth.
Next was the Ukrainian Borscht, which was hearty, flavorful and makes you wanting more! The sour cream and sauce with chives added an extra flair to the entree.
Then we tried the Zapiekanka sandwich, which my friend modified and added some Kielbasa to it, and this was to die for! Very tasty and I highly recommend to get!
My main entree was the Polish Platter, and it didn’t dissapoint. The Pierogi’s, Kielbasa, stuffed cabbage and stew had me full for the night! This meal is worth every dollar!
Last we had the lavender, strawberry and blueberry lemonade. All were tasty and refreshing for the meal. It went well with everything and I would order it again.
Overall an amazing restaurant and I wish we had one in Brooklyn! I look forward to coming back again with my family, and i appreciated the kind service and...
Read morenew authentic Italian gem in Great Kills, and it honestly felt like the return of something Staten Island forgot it needed. This isn’t just another “American Italian” restaurant — it’s a real deal Italian place and Italian family from Italy that came recently few years back, bringing back the real Italian culture that Staten Island lost way long ago. I’ve been to Italy and they’re bringing all the culture back here.
From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with genuine Italian hospitality — the kind you don’t come across anymore. It’s a family-run spot with heart, history, and pride behind everything they do, and you can feel it in the atmosphere.
The food? Exceptional. Every bite was straight quality and unmistakably fresh — no shortcuts, no gimmicks — just honest, delicious Italian cooking the way it’s meant to be. The ingredients speak for themselves, and so does the craftsmanship in every plate that hits the table.
This is exactly what the community needs right now: a place that reminds us what true Italian dining is about — warmth, tradition, and quality.
Highly recommend this spot for anyone who appreciates real food, real people, and a restaurant with a story worth supporting. A must-visit that I know will become a staple in...
