De Islands — Restaurant in New York

Came here on a Sunday night and the staff was extremely pleasant and patient. The staff assisted us with the order and was very friendly. We got the Peas n Rice with oxtail and Jerk Chicken with Rasta Pasta and the food was extremely tasty and seasoned just right. It was not too salty, not too greasy, and spice not so overpowering that you can't taste the basic ingredient of the dish. I love rice since I am Asian descent and I could eat their Peas n Rice all day. I just finished my meal 30 minutes ago and I lm already thinking about more. I don’t know where to start! This is refreshing! Jamaican restaurant who serve up good food don’t have good service and the ones with good service have mediocre food. De Islands nailed all three categories! The food is spot on, service is amazing, the staff is friendly and overall it was an experience! I traveled well over 200 miles to experience this and boy! Did they deliver. The food was very much worth the price. I would try to figure out a way to lessen the carbon footprint with all those plastic container they use I feel is redundant and unnecessary but hey! I’ll for sure be coming back. 10/10

Visited De Island based on the recommendation of a colleague.

I had just got done playing a match of tennis and I wasn’t sure what I wanted to eat. I asked the Cashier for a recommendation and she suggested the ackee and salt fish.

I’ve been to many other Jamaican/Caribbean restaurants and I’ve ackee and salt fish ranging from no flavor to it being too salty.

But I must say, the ackee and salt fish I got today (June 16th, 2023) was outstanding. It was perfect, so to the chef; I’ll say, please keep it up.

I will definitely visit again to try the other foods that they sell.
