I've been coming here somewhat frequently since they opened about a year ago and it's quickly become one of my favorite bars in NYC. There are some obvious perks of GG that other reviews touch on (fantastic liquor selection, spacious backyard with good atmosphere and comfortable seating, friendly staff, and possibly the best fries you'll find in a bar), but I want to highlight their commitment to innovation.
Gowanus Gardens expands their menu almost weekly. Two of my recent favorites are their new grilled cheese and the frozen sangria, but they have come out with so many hits this summer that I can barely keep track.
Besides menu innovations they have made many improvements to their backyard over the last year including the addition of long communal picnic tables and large umbrellas on case it rains. They were also quick to create an outside "front yard" during the Covid-19 pandemic, which has the added benefit of allowing dogs!
They do a great job showcasing new liquors, cocktails, or snacks on their instagram if that's your thing.
Excited to see what Gowanus Gardens comes...
Read moreCame with a Large group on a rainy saturday while they werent too busy, we stormed in 30 deep and inundated them immediately. As I sat down at the bar my GF and I looked over and saw the bartender busy taking and making drinks, we figured we'd have to wait a while, but after a breif period the bartemder appeared infront of us ready to take our order. No fighting to be seen. We ordered and the drinks were prepared as youd expect a professional bar tender would. Upon realizing they had food I asked if the kitchen was still open...at 1:18am...no shot right? Wrong! The kitchen was open and they had a pretty varied menu. I ordered wings and fries, classic bar food and the food was brought out shortly. The wings were hitting, fresh and crispy; fried well, the amount of bars that mess this up is astounding, But they HIT. The fries were crisp and delicious served with a nice chiptole mayo. Some of the best food I have had at a local sit down bar. Definitley worth a look and can absolutley...
Read moreI have supported this place in the past and have encouraged others to do the same because I thought the owners were good people. Not true. One is unapologetically racist. I’m sitting outside and so are the owners, as they often do. One owner (drunk a-hole guy) is explaining to the other owner how black people are not like white people and repeats a series of ignorant tropes, which I won’t repeat. Of course he waited for the black customer to go inside to mouth off like this. When I tell them I won’t be back, he tells me I should stay and listen to more of his racist remarks. The woman owner tried to tell him he was being racist, but was wasting her breath. He wasn’t having it. I’m so disgusted and disappointed. At least I know who these people...
