This was an amazing find! Was in the neighborhood one day & saw it was almost 5 stars with a nice small menu. We had to try it. We've been back about 6 times in one month
It's not your typical Korean spot. The menu is limited & there isn't really any appetizers. You get the side dishes & a warm cup of fish soup. All complimentary. Drink selection is what you see in the refrigerator. They offer tea - it's yummy.
Our first time here I ordered the Don Katsu with cheese and the Carbonara (I was shocked to see an Italian Dish on the menu - so I had to try) My s/o got the Kimichi Fried Rice.
The Carbonara was literally one of the best I've had. It was rich and delicious. It was great! Better than some Italian joints I've been to. Portion was huge! I took some home!
The Don Katsu w/cheese was phenomenal. Juicy pork and the cheese added a nice saltyness. I enjoyed the tiny Jalapenos on top.
I'm a spice guy - so I wanted some gochujang to dip my Katsu in. The chef made me a special hot sauce and I was happy! It was a mix of gochujang and whatever else he felt appropriate.
The Kimichi Fried Rice with Spam was delicious! My s/o enjoyed it so much! It's topped with a fried egg! Ask for it runny - it's the best!
We've been here quiet a few times now & we want to try it all!
Once again - another Italian specialty is on the menu - Shrimp Aglio e olio! This was just devine! The garlic was ample but not overpowering! There was whole garlic and I love me some garlic! ..
My s/o had the Bulgogi Pot - delicious! Tender! Her new favorite bulgogi spot.
The Spicy Pork with Squid - just try it!
They offer frozen dumplings to go & it's must! I do it in my air fryer & it's so juicy and packed with flavor. About 15 minutes at 400 if you try it - but yah know - test for yourself.
The staff is welcoming & the chef is the best! He knows we like spicy and because of the semi open kitchen view - he sees us and makes my sauce w/o asking - the second time back! And he make the Kimichi Fried Rice spicy too! He's awesome.
Nice and clean place.
Parking can be tough - depends on...
Read moreCame here for lunch based on reviews and ordered kimchi stew. It was unusually sour. It wasn't spicy at all, maybe it's catered more for Americans? Not sure. (I can't eat spicy foods but I do prefer a kick, 얼큰한거 you know? Flavorful with spice in the stew). They gave 3 side dishes, one being radish kimchi which was also sour. Probably got too fermented because that's what happens when it's sitting for long.
Pros - they give you decent amount of meat in the stew bc idk what other restaurants gives you as much as they do. They were big chunks too. Price is more than fair for what you get. Had to take the rest to go.
Cons - idk what it was but the vibes I got from both waiters was odd. There's no greeting when you walk in. When I asked for to go bag, the lady tells another lady that I need a to go bag but she seemed busy with the delivery and talking to vendors. She just stood there and did nothing lmao. Only for her to eventually bring it to me herself.
Also, she wasn't being rude when I realized they dont take card for $20 and under. So when I told her I didnt know and didnt have cash, I was going to mention sending via zelle as some business does this. But she just took my card and charged. But again, there's no reassurance of telling customers, "it's ok", "no problem". The silence this entire time just made things awkward and almost got me thinking if I did something wrong lol.
It's all very strange lol I'm sure other foods are great and maybe they're not like this everyday. I would go back and try donkatsu but not sure if i want to...
Read moreThis is a delivery review.
Wow. People weren't kidding when they said this restaurant gives huge portions. I'm a huge quantityquality person and I am impressed by the amount of food they give you. I was kind of skeptical about the portions for delivery because all restaurants basically use same sized containers but I was proven wrong! The carbonara was 1.5x of pasta from a typical pizzeria and the donkatsu container couldn't even close properly due to the amt of cutlet in it.
You can definitely tell the owner(s) of this restaurant loves eating. The portions are very generous, along with a heap of rice, cutlets were cut in thick, long slices. And listen. The broth that came as a side for the donkatsu ACTUALLY HAD FISH CAKES IN IT. No Korean restaurant I've ever visited in NYC and NJ have done this.
The only thing was that the grounded bean soup? (콩비지찌개) wasn't the best I've tasted. It was on the watery side with a lot of unaged kimchi pieces, causing to taste much milder than the average. I would have preferred it thicker and with more flavor. But idk, maybe it's a diff recipe from a diff part of Korea that I've never tasted.
But overall, excellent food for the price. Will definitely visit the restaurant to try...
