Nice people. Not many servers. Went there because I only eat wild caught seafood because we dont like the hormones that farmed has, therefore, price isn't an issue. Ordered shrimp stuffed with crabmeat. The shrimp were good but the crab meat was more breading than crab. I am used to distinguishing the crab meat. The rice seemed boiled. The bread was good. My sis took fried combo. Fish was too thin and shrimp was butterflied, not that meaty.. Did not have strong taste like im used to. Beautiful view.
Update 8/24/25 In reply to your written attack...you never addressed the issues I mentioned. I was never rude or mean about the review. I was honest. The crabmeat was doughy with no sign of crabmeat.. you never addressed that. The rice tasted boiled, you never addressed that..the thin fish and butterflied shrimp was never addressed either. I can be as rude as you when I write as well but I chose not to. I just posted the review because I'm used to great food. Grew up going to city island but this was not a great experience. If the truth bothers you, maybe get a better chef, get your company off the web or just dont go on the internet. I dont know where your attack came from so I am just going to let it slide, maybe your going through something. Hope that things go better for you and you start taking this review as a means to better your food and not as a personal attack. Have a wonderful evening.
8/25/25 I decided to finally look at your reviews. As you can see, your attack on me is your way of denying your food is bad. And these are just a few...
Bill Murphy Local Guide·34 reviews·37 photos 2 years ago Dine in | Dinner | $50–100 The staff was great. The view is great. The place itself is really run down and needs a lot of work. The food is very overpriced for what you get in my opinion. Expect to pay $75 per person without drinks or dessert. You can easily pay a lot more without drinks or dessert as well. Drinks served in disposable plastic cups. Peas that come with the meal served the same way without any seasoning and seemed microwaved. Seafood stuffing mostly bread.
Enza kico3 reviews 4 years ago 3rs time at JP"s and probably the last. Introduced to famous stuffed baked clams and loved them. Clams were stuffed with chopped clams til the last time, which were stuffed with bread. I ask server if recipe had changed and she was extremely polite to find out. We thought if we could get our remaining clams well done it would compensate for the ratio of clams to bread flavor. Approached owner and he blamed the sever. Sadly I believe the blame is the kitchen staff. Mistakes happen but you can't blame someone if they are not to at fault. Sad to see this attitude at JP"s....some advice take the customer"s opinion.😔 🙏3
CoolieLocal Guide·68 reviews·70 photos 3 years ago Not wort your time or money, DO NOT COME HERE, the food is BLAND, TASTELESS, Calamari had no taste what so ever, Streamed Lobster was the same, the only items that had any flavor??? was the fries and the fried shrimp, I truly believe this restaurant serves pre-boxed frozen meals, straight from the freezer to the frying pan, to yor plate, pics are in order of appearance, the fried shrimp amd fries, jumbo shrimp with crab meat stuffing, which had no crab, and last was the steamed lobster.
Laniya Harris 15 reviews·4 photos 2 years ago Dine in | Dinner | $50–100 Came for a graduation/ birthday dinner. Food is over priced. In the menu on top of each page in big blue letters it says add an additional 5 dollars to the already overly priced food. Rice tasted like it was microwaved, crab stuffing was so salty i couldn’t eat it at all. Before I went in I looked at the reviews and one stuck out to me. Every thing Mr. Murphy said was correct to the T. Service was amazing. My server “Mo” was the best. No order was messed up and she was very friendly. Price around 50-70 dollars with that additional 5 added to each individual price. My lobster tail was very tough and chewy. Atmosphere was great. Garlic bread was good as well. Will not...
Read moreDon't listen to these 4 star reviewers - they must work at JP's or own the place. But if you want to sit in a place that is very dark and depressing and be charged extremely high prices for very ordinary food, by all means go and check out JPs.
OK, the minute I stepped in this extremely neglected and forlorn looking restaurant, I wanted to turn around and make a fast exit. Upon entering, you see some huge groupers in a tank that are barely moving. Then you pass a booth piled up with all sorts of junk. If this is all not a bad omen, what is? My man insisted that we stay, and stay we did to to the tune of $100.00. You get a plastic and extremely tacky menu, and just try and find one reasonably priced dish. There aren't any! The cheapest thing on the menu is plain old flounder priced at a WHOPPING $27.00! The real and total insult is the ambiance which is one big fat ZERO. In fact, there was one long strip of cable that traveled by our booth that was literally taped to the floor. Prices, considering the very sad surroundings, are beyond ridiculous. Bread served immediately upon being seated was extremely stale. Went there @ end of July, and there was no air conditioning on in the place! It was borderline/warm. Asked for butter, which came frozen and hard as a rock. Drinks good, but @ $13.00 each? Salad was boring and is served in PLASTIC plates. Fish, arrived after a very long wait (20-25 minutes). I had to ask waitress to check up on our order, and sure enough it had been sitting there all along, because she delivered it immediately. My dish was held up because my man's dish took longer to cook. Tried some (snapper), and it was overcooked to the point of crispiness. Fish isn't supposed to be crispy, is it? Fish was very fresh but two times the normal portion but without any seasoning whatsoever. I've eaten flounder like this cooked by mum at a fraction of the price. So, how about shaving the portion in half, and charging half as much? Oh, and the music was beyond horrible. One bad and sorry hit from the 70s and 80s after another. It's like you're in a time warp, but not in a good way. I guess they feel they can charge these exorbitant prices for the water view, which was really nothing. We saw one duck and one boat. Left this place feeling very depressed considering how hard my man works for his money, and if you want to throw even more $$$ out the window, they even offer valet parking! (We parked around the block.) So, would we ever lay out $100.00 for a very average meal again in this DUMP? DON't think so. And you?...
Read moreThe food is okay slightly on the greasy side extremely expensive 2 comparable restaurants on the island we were there last night and for an appetizer it was $30 which is outrageous the restaurant itself looks very dated it's in desperate need of an update and renovation the staff is unorganized does not seem to know what they're doing I will say even though the prices are on the more expensive side the portions are big so if you don't mind paying more and getting a larger portion then I guess it's okay but across the board in every category it's very expensive. the stakes are extremely expensive s and I will say I've had better tasting steaks and other locations at a fraction of the cost the steak was absolutely horrible the sea food portions on the other hand you get a big plate but you're going to pay for what you're getting domestic beers are also are on the expensive side the average cost of the domestic beer was $7 per beer which again is on the expensive side for domestic beer I've had visited almost every restaurant on the island this restaurant by far has been the most expensive I have ever sat and down and eating at I will most likely not visit this restaurant again in the future at the price point that we spend for food the disorganization of the staff and the decor of the restaurant quality of the food I don't think warrants the price again I'm giving it a three stars because the size of the portion of the food but that doesn't compensate for the fact they are overpriced and is extremely outdated looking restaurant calling out waiters over the PA system just seems primitive for such a pricey restaurant in my humble opinion I would recommend going to Sammy's Fish Box well organized great tasting food at a reasonable price point and a very well organized staff I also wanted to add and I don't know if it's also important but when you're paying for such pricey food I would like to see the cookware beyond the slightly higher inside flimsy plastic bowls for your salad knives and forks look old cups are old I don't understand how can you justify your price point when your restaurant is out of date yes the portions a great they're big but that shouldn't be the only thing that justifies a very extremely expensive plate of food their number of restaurants on the island when you can get great tasting food at a reasonable price point I feel like you have the I went out to a high-end restaurant experience JP's is definitely...
