There used to be a plethora of pizza parlours on 13th Avenue, but they've all closed down, except for Krispy Pizza and Tony's Pizza, which is a great testament to their staying power. Oh, 13th Avenue, the graveyard of many small businesses, why are you so cruel? In any case, I hope Krispy Pizza stays on for many, many, many long years to come, because I don't want to resort to Domino's if I can help it.
The price for a slice is pretty steep, especially if you're going to order more than three slices. In that case, ordering a whole pie is more bang for your buck. My family has been ordering pizza from Krispy for over ten years now, so it's pretty obvious how much we love their pizza.
When we were pizza amateurs, we ordered the regular cheese pie. Of course, it's a great pizza, but now we've been awakened to the other varieties of pizza after years of patronage, we haven't gotten the regular in a long time. Now our go-to options are either the margherita pie or the grandma pie, and they're absolutely delectable. We get them at least once a month or two, and it's enough to last us a week. However, we haven't ventured into the more lavish options on the menu yet, so perhaps, one day, we'll try those as well.
Once, we tried a calzone from here, which was very salty, so I don't think we'll be ordering another any time soon. It was also weirdly heated up, as in scorching hot on one end, and cold on the other.
I have to say, the customer service here is a hit or miss. Sometimes the counter people are friendly, but other times, they're really rude, especially to my poor mother, who can't speak good English. She's been ripped off a couple dollars or so on multiple occasions in the past because of some sort of intentional miscommunication, which I don't think is very professional. But it seems those problematic employees aren't working there anymore, so that's a good sign for this business. Here's to wishing for the future continued success of...
Read morePlaced the order at 5:35…it’s now 8:45 and it’s still not here and I live 2 AVENUES AWAY… haven’t ordered from Krispy in YEARS because the quality had down & decided to give it a try again after seeing all the recent social media hype & an updated menu…haven’t even tried the food yet and I’m already turned off entirely. Had to call twice to inquire about where my food was and both times I had to call SEVERAL times before anyone even picked up. Now every time I call to inquire yet again, the line is busy and no one has had the respect to call back on their own volition to inform customers on their order delays. Finally got through and the excuse for a 3 HOUR DELAY was that no slice pies were ready ?? B.S. At least have the decency to be transparent that an order was forgotten about and make it right to honor your customers. Been in the service industry myself for quite sometime, I understand a Friday night rush as much as the next guy, but if you cannot handle the volume of the demand you need to supply, please just take the phone off the hook & stop accepting more orders than you can keep up with. The receipt was correct and after all that part of the order was wrong & the delivery driver sold you out immediately that the original order never went out in the first place unlike ‘Mo’ there told us it did. Please don’t lie to hangry women about their food, we see right through you. They attempted to make it right by sending out more food but the makeup slices were unfortunately still wrong- later found out he credited out entire order so I can greatly appreciate that but getting the food after 9 o’clock was...
Read moreI don't know Dyker Heights very well, but I believe this is among the top spots in the neighborhood. I heard about this place via social media, and it is a family run business. The inside looks like a bunch of other pizza in places with plenty of seating inside and not knowing where to order a slice. But it was "lit" inside with lots of customers so I was down to see what this pizza was.
As shown in the picture, you've got a plain cheese slice that has that look. You know it's going to be very good just from the look. The Sicilian slice is more intriguing, pepperoni, mozzarella, basil and dollops of ricotta. This was one of the more memorable slices ive had, just a great slice. Their sauce blend is on the sweeter side as well, which you can identify in other pizza places as well.
Despite being a unpretentious, workman, old school style place, they do get innovative with their pizza choices. You can get an MVP if you so wish, so lots of variety if you want something different.
I will say the pizza itself falls outside of the top tier pizza places in NYC. And it wasn't notably crispy crispy pizza, despite the name. But what you get is excellent pizza, innovative variety, and very fair prices. This is worth a trip out to Dyker Heights if you're in the city, and probably the best spot around if you live...
