I support black businesses and was pleased to hear after speaking with Ms. Loretta, owner of the above bakery that she would create my son's "Cannoli Birthday Cake" and have it ready for pickup on June 4th at 12:00pm, which she had two weeks time to do. She stated her gmail was down so she requested that I send my son's custom Cannoli cake order request to her via "TEXT". I had never done this process before with any other bakery so it felt odd, but I did it.
On the day of pickup, Ms. Loretta's demeanor appeared polite, but "hurried & flustered" because I sensed she had many orders on her plate going on at one time that day. This in turn put my son's custom Cannoli birthday cake in jeopardy because when I arrived on June 4th at 12:00pm to pick up the cake, I had to wait TWO HOURS and there was only one other customer in the bakery at that time! I was not satisfied with this, and the only reason why I did not walk out was because I did not want to disappoint my son's birthday event later that evening by showing up without his custom Cannoli birthday cake request. As I waited patiently (that was the Christian part of me), I sensed the cake was being "RUSHED BAKED & IMPROPERLY DECORATED SAME DAY" because of the wait-time and the multiple questions I received from Ms. Loretta as she kept rushing out to ask me about the cake's decorating instructions. I asked her why she did not print out my specific instructions & place them on her wall for reference & she had no valid answer, but kept apologizing. After many edits to the cake (SMH), she finally brought out the "FINAL VERSION" of the Cannoli birthday cake which was visually appealing as the picture reflected, I paid & left.
At my son's birthday event later that evening, upon tasting a piece of the cake slice, it had nice flavor & was visually appealing which was why I gave this review 1 star, that's it...if there was a 1/2 star rating that I could have used, I would have...Sadly: (1) When my son bit into one of the cannolis that was decorated on top of the cake, it was "Not Crunchy & Semi-Hollow Inside" because there was not enough filling inside, (2) The Cannoli filling in-between the two layers of the cake were "ALMOST INVISIBLE"- I specified a "minimum of 1 inch or more" of Cannoli filling, which I did not get, (3) The chocolate frosting on the outside of the cake "Had Soooooo Much Chocolate Frosting" covering it, I finally understood why when I removed the frosting from my slice and found out that the edges were BURNT!!! My son's guests & family members commented on this as well - how embarrassing!!! They also thought the cake was a "chocolate cinnamon cake", not Cannoli cake because of the "MOUNDS Of Chocolate Frosting" slathered on the outside of the cake to COVER UP THE BURNT EDGES - SMH!!!
Ms. Loretta took my money, but unfortunately missed the mark on properly following my son's custom Cannoli birthday cake order request and she damaged the integrity process of completing the custom Cannoli birthday cake order request in a "TIMELY and CORRECT MANNER". When I called to speak to her about the cake, no one answered, I also sent her text referencing the cake issues but did NOT receive a text reply back. This was "HORRIBLE, UNEXCUSABLE, UNACCEPTABLE and INCONVENIENT" behavioral practices from this black-owned business in "DEVALUING A CUSTOMER! Who does she think increases her business flow - "CUSTOMERS" that's who! If she could not take on my son's custom Cannoli birthday cake order request, then she should have said so. Sadly, I tried to support this black-owned business, but Ms. Loretta FAILED me! Going forward, I along with family, friends and my clients will take our business to other bakeries for custom cake orders...Lessons learned from this...
Read moreI was having a stressful day on my drive home. The traffic was so thick & waves of frustration came over me. I kept directing my mind on L.A. Sweet’s bakery & their red velvet cake. I thought if I could just make it home, park the car, run up & use the bathroom I could make it to the bakery & change the way I was feeling.
When I reached the counter there it was... a brand new red velvet cake. It hadn’t even been cut yet. It was as if the universe wanted to bless me after an awful ride in. I got the first piece. I come here a few times per month & it’s always special but today that cake gave me life.
This is the best cake & icing I’ve ever had. I’m so grateful it’s a hop, skip & a jump from home. I feel so much better now. I started eating it before I left the store. The slices are so big it lasts me for 3 days.
This bakery is a true gem in the community. There’s nothing more loving & thoughtful than a fresh homemade cake. No cheap ingredients in any of these treats!
Enjoy! My Faves: Red Velvet slice or cupcake And the black out cupcake - regular or vegan. They are...
Read moreI ordered a cake here to surprise someone to pick up next day, the lady on the phone told me she’s booked but she’ll still take my order, I didn’t beg or plead with her to she probably needed the work. I drew a picture of how I wanted the cake to look and gave her references. when I went to pick up the cake, it looked nothing like how I wanted. If I had a cake printer, I could have bought a box of red velvet & did exactly what she did for significantly cheaper. When I gave her ideas on how to fix it, she went back & forth with me for 15 minutes about why she couldn’t do it instead of just doing it. Then she told me I put in a cake order last minute but she DIDNT have to take my order. It’s not my fault she over booked herself and couldn’t deliver what a paying customers request. I asked for a refund or discount, she told me I either pay full price or leave with no cake. I told her I wasn’t happy with how the cake came out and it looks tacky, she told me that’s my opinion.. well duh! It’s also my cake that I’m paying for so my opinion is the most important....
