Haremite is a wonderfully tucked away Peruvian restaurant in Harlem. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted and taken to sit in their very cozy dining area. My friends and I went right after a heavy rain storm, so we had the place to ourselves, which was an amazing plus. It did start to pick up about 30 minutes after we were seated, so don't be scared off by a slow day. Now let's get to the food. You are met with what seems like a small menu, but trust me, their selections are wonderfully sized and delicious! We started with their croquetas aji de gallina, then moved on to our main dishes. I had their Tacacho with pork and shared fried yuca and fried plantains with my friends. The tacacho was great but a little dry. The garlic sauce that came with it helped it a lot. The sides are what they are, excellent little fried bites of goodness. I was also able to try some of my friends' order of Lomo Saltado, which was amazing! I highly recommend getting this specialty if you eat here. All in all, I do recommend you to come try out Harlemite for yourselves and sit down and have a couple of drinks and enjoy some tasty food with your friends. This restaurant gets my seal...
Read moreA Hidden Gem with Heart – 10/10 Experience! We had an unforgettable meal at this incredible Peruvian restaurant led by Chef Gabriel. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming — truly a place that feels like home. It’s family-friendly, pet-friendly, and full of heart.
We started with the ceviche and chicken croquettes, both of which were absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. What really made the experience stand out was the exceptional service. Chef Gabriel personally came out to greet us and walk us through the dishes, explaining the ingredients and inspirations behind them. His passion and pride in his cooking really shined through.
To top it all off, he treated us to a complimentary crème brûlée — a perfect, sweet ending to a perfect meal.
Can’t recommend this place enough. If you’re looking for authentic Peruvian cuisine with top-notch...

After living in Ecuador and visiting Peru for a long time, I was excited to try this spot in Harlem and ordered a favorite dish of mine from abroad. The camarones al ajillo were unfortunately very disappointing. While the shrimp were cooked well, the sauce was not authentic at all (missing richness, consistency) and lacked flavor and for $25, was simply not a big enough portion size. Other members of my party got a whole cooked fish for $24 for reference. The chaufa was decent but not the best I’ve had. Based on the other dishes in the party, they were equally disappointed although the half chicken and the whole fish got slightly better reviews. Would not return and felt overpriced for what it was. Want to mention that the service was very nice at least. Definitely other Peruvian spots that are more authentic...
