I am surprised to see the positive reviews of the park below. These are clearly superficial reviews of people who have NO idea what actually happens in this park. I live right across the street - in fact my apartment has a clear view of the park - and of course I have been inside it many times. First, let's be real - this park is filled with homeless people, some of them dirty and many of them drunk and/or on drugs. They mostly hang out on the northern side of the park, where the two children's playgrounds are. I can't tell you how disturbing it is to be pushing your child on a swing in full view of the drunken/drugged out homeless crew, many of which are loud and foul-mouthed. However, that is by far the LEAST disturbing thing about this park. I have seen from my window in the past few months, dozens of sexual encounters (mostly between men)- some of those encounters being full blown sex in BROAD DAYLIGHT on the weekends. I work during the week but can only imagine that it goes on then as well. These encounters take place at the top of the park, in the bushes, and oftentimes on rocks in a clearing, hence easily viewable from anyone in the building across. In addition to these disgusting sexual acts, I have seen frequent drug encounters in those same spots, the last of which was a man shooting up heroin in his arm. I have called the police on multiple occasions and they say they are fully aware of what goes in in this park but are too short-staffed to do anything about it. It is a disgrace to the community that the park authorities and the police allow this blatantly illegal activity to go on. I no longer step foot in Marcus...

Pretty decent pool. It wasn't crowded, there was a BBQ for everyone, life guards are very attentive and the water was clean and good temperature. Staff was nice until the end of the session. Once you go back to the locker room to change, the staff start yelling for everyone to get out. They close the bathroom and showers and yell for everyone to immediately leave because they have to clean for the next session. When I spoke with An employee, she explained that an announcement is usually made 15 minutes before end of session to give everyone time to change and leave. When I pointed out that there was no announcement and that people should be able to use the bathroom and showers before they go, she told me they have to clean for the next session. Overall, it's a good pool, I just wish you would give extra time at the end of a session for people to change and to not yell. Many children were upset as...

This park is ideally up-and-coming park and has been or has gone un noticed for a very long time. The staff of the park have been working very diligently to clean up this prestigious park commemorating Marcus Garvey and his contribution to New York City and more specifically Harlem during the civil rights movement Coming from a West Indian background it shocked me to see that there was bread fruit AKA pana on the floor Residents as well as Other patrons have the ability to showcase showcase their talent as there is a stage located at the park that the park there is also a pool pool during summer months You will also find sometimes African drummers is in drummers and dancers combined combine performing and inviting children to June 2 play please be very mindful As there is good and bad everywhere that the parks close at approximately 9 PM So be very careful...

This is a tough one. This park is great that it is there for the residents. But it's had a checkered past. There have been violence there - they close the upper part of the park. There is a really cool tower that was used to look for fires in the city after built about a decade after the civil war in 1875. It's a shame that the city doesn't budget more money for this park. It services more people with it's parkland, courts and swimming pool that any of the other parks that are better maintained downtown from this park. There are often young artists displaying their art here which is ALWAYS cool to see. I like this park and wish the city would realize it should be a National heritage site. The graffiti in the picture/s do not reflect my views but that of some park dwellers.
