I flew in from Georgia to spend time with my family, and my dad was eager to take us to what he described as an "amazing Haitian restaurant." As a Haitian American, I was genuinely excited to support a small, Black-owned Haitian business and enjoy some authentic cuisine. My dad had even called ahead to let the owner know we were coming.
Unfortunately, the experience fell far below expectations. My parents arrived first, and when my brother, his fiancée, and I got there, he asked to use the restroom. The owner curtly replied that the bathroom door was locked, without offering any help or explanation. It created an unnecessarily uncomfortable moment when a simple offer to unlock it or provide a key would’ve sufficed.
Shortly after we sat down, the owner and her husband—who appeared to be doing laundry—placed a wet tablecloth on our table. My mother pointed it out, but the owner dismissively insisted it wasn’t wet, despite all of us confirming that it clearly was.
There was no printed menu, just a small board the owner passed around. My dad let her know I wanted the fried red snapper, and I placed my order. My mom, due to health concerns, specifically requested fish in sauce instead of fried. The owner assured us it would be freshly made.
More than 30–45 minutes passed before anyone offered water, and since both the owner and her husband were working in the kitchen, there was no one handling customer service. I had to retrieve my own water bottle from the car just to stay hydrated. When I asked again about the restroom—since my brother still hadn’t received access—I was told the bathroom is typically locked because "others usually come in and mess it up." As paying guests, this explanation felt unnecessary and unprofessional. Eventually, she gave us the key.
As the restaurant began to fill with other customers, it became clear that they too were receiving little to no service. We arrived between 7:15 and 7:30 PM and didn’t receive our food until nearly 9 PM. When my mom’s plate arrived, it was supposed to be fish in sauce—but the fish had clearly been fried and just topped with sauce. Out of caution, she only ate the salad.
The rest of us ate the food, and while it looked fine, we soon realized it wasn’t fresh—within an hour, all of us (except my mom) became ill. Sadly, it cost me a full day of my trip to New York as I spent the next 24 hours recovering.
To make matters worse, as my dad was paying, the owner repeatedly told him—rudely—that my mom shouldn’t return since she "didn’t eat her food," even though she had clearly communicated her dietary restrictions and was served something she couldn’t eat.
I sincerely hope this business takes steps to improve its service and hospitality. As much as we wanted to support them, this experience left us deeply disappointed, and we won’t...
Read moreI went here as an Uber courier. 9pm on a Friday night and not one single customer or employee inside the restaurant. Restaurant was cluttered with what looked to be birthday decorations. Customer's food was sitting on the counter with no workers to be found. Had to open the bag to see if it was my customer since there was no name. Phone was ringing but no one picked the phone up. Left after matching the order since I"m not waiting, and fifteen minutes later - AFTER THE CUSTOMER GOT THEIR FOOD, someone from the restaurant got my number and left me not one bit TWO extremely rude and harrassing voicemails for doing my job. Who knows how long that person's order would have sat there had I just left without completing it. Don't ever get delivery from here because there's a chance your order would have sat on the counter for 30 minutes before your courier takes it. And take note of the fact that there was not one customer to be found on a Friday night and their disgraceful behavior toward someone doing their job and take your money elsewhere. Also worth noting that the front window of the restaurant was cracked and busted and the place was in disrepair....
Read moreNASTY: Went in there and didn’t know whether I was walking into a restaurant or someone’s living room as previously stated by another reviewer. A large female was sitting by herself clipping her toenails with her feet on a chair. I almost got hit in the face by one and I dodged it.l like the Matrix. She then flicked something from under her finger nails (brother eww). After noticing me she screamed at me to put my phone away. I had another party on the phone I was waiting for. She must have thought I was recording her. A guy came from the back and yelled at me to stop talking to his wife. He said they are the OWNERS and I’m being rude.
The lady then started barking at me like she was a dog and told me she is crazy. Owner told me I’m wrong for yelling at her. 😳. I never spoke to her. I just said that’s nasty when a toenail almost hit me like a snot rocket. I never tried the food as it’s probably not fit for human consumption with toenail dust and particles floating all around the place.
HEALTH & SAFETY VIOLATION!!!!!
