Recently, I discovered a Greek restaurant called Ya Souvlaki on Flatbush and ended up visiting three times within a week. The food was good, and the staff was pleasant. However, I encountered an issue on my second visit when I ordered the Lamb Kebab Piato (two lamb kebab skewers with tzatziki sauce, pita bread, a side of YA house salad with dressing, a choice of sauce, fresh fries, and grilled tomato) for $16.00. To my surprise, the dish used minced meat rather than whole lamb pieces.
On my third visit, I specifically requested the Lamb Kalamaki (Lamb Skewer Platter), expecting the skewer of lamb chunks as listed on the menu. This platter, priced at $20.00, includes one lamb skewer with tzatziki sauce, pita bread, a side of salad, a choice of sauce, fresh fries, and grilled tomato. When I arrived to pick up my order, the cashier handed me a small bag containing only two lamb skewers and some bread, for which I was charged $21.78. I found this odd, as the rest of the platter items were missing.
This experience, which happened on October 31, left me uneasy. When I called the restaurant today to share my concerns with the owner, he showed no concern about the menu discrepancy or the incomplete order. Instead, he criticized me for not addressing the issue immediately, even accusing me of ordering incorrectly. He suggested that I visit the restaurant so he could "teach me how to order food." His dismissive, aggressive attitude left a negative impression.
The food may be good, and the staff generally pleasant, but the owner's response was extremely rude and disappointing. I find him to be very aggressive and...
Read moreI came in here thought I’d give it a try. But the service Is horrible. The lady at the front register literally stopped taking orders when I got to the register & I was the last person in line….. doesn’t make sense she then began serving people that came in after me to pick up uber eats orders and prolonged taking my order to start serving people on the floor. Literally no customer awareness or professionalism. She then got nasty with me because I asked “can I place my order” replying they are busy and have to continue to wait. Mind you online orders are still coming in and over eats delivery drivers are still coming into the restaurant making my wait time even more longer. I don’t mind waiting understand people and restaurants being busy, what I don’t understand as someone who works in the service industry is ignoring certain customers, unprofessionalism and a lack of urgency or acknowledgement. Even something simple as telling me the options for the pita bowl she was rude and “you can just look up there” which I had to reply I can’t because I don’t have my glasses…. I haven’t ate the food yet but based on services I won’t...
Read moreLet's go Ya Souvlakia's catering excels in its ease ordering, exceptional service and of course, its fantastic food. Our guests raved about how great the food was even claiming that the catering was better than what you might find in Greece! From the start, Michael expertly helped us tailor a menu to suit a wide range of guests and he willingly worked within our tight budget. The gyro, kebabs and horiatiki were the stars of the night but the desserts also rounded out such a superb selection, we cannot wait to work with Ya again. Michael even lent us buffet set-ups at no cost and checked in repeatedly to make sure everything was OK. The catering at our event was not only delicious and seamless but we felt like we had true friends in the kitchen prepping our meal. There was a warmth and care that came across through all the dishes- what a treat to have...
