Grand Army Plaza is a place I visit everyday. I stop there on my way to walk through Prospect Park. I see the beautiful sculptures and strong arches, the flowers, and think, all of this is in my Brooklyn.
Grand Army Plaza, on Saturday mornings, transforms into a vibrant and colorful marketplace, as vendors from across the state come to sell their products. My favorite products are beets - golden beets, multi colored carrots, scallions, breads and fruits. I have to mention the chocolate milk from Ronni brook Farms - rich, creamy yumminess! What's also interesting about this market is the fact that they have literature on composting and composting bins where you can bring food products for the compost pile. There is also recycling of old clothes and bed linens. It is awesome to see the number of people who show up on Saturday mornings to buy milk, fruits, vegetables, breads, and drinks. It's absolutely beautiful ....the smells, the sound, the taste of Grand Army on Saturday mornings at the market. Come visit, you...
Read moreI grew up here in the area. Always played at the 11th street playground, worked for the parks department and prospect park alliance for 4 years. How better could it get, every chance I get to go back I go, even to walk around or in the park. Grand army plaza one of my favorite spots near the park. I admire the ongoing dedication of the parks department and prospect park alliance to keep and cultivate the park in a beautiful way for everyone who live there and are visiting from a different country or state to enjoy. Home is where the heart is, park slope was and will always be my first home. Walking around experiecing prospect park with nature, le frak center, the various playgrounds give me a sense of serenity of peace of calmness. Thank you to the original designers of prospect park Frederick law Olmsted and Clavert Vaux. For creating beautiful landscapes of nature and architecture. Thanks to prospect park for memories then now and in the future.(my pictures posted with my review are from around grand army plaza on...
Read moreGrand Army Place is a small park, meeting place, weekend farmer’s market, historical site and traffic hub all at once. The most remarkable site at Grand Army Plaza is the Soldier’s and Sailor’s Arch at the south end. Designed by John H. Duncan, it was built from 1889 to 1892, it is dedicated to the Defenders of the Union. The Arch in its splendid turn-of-the-century style reminds one of the Arch de Triomphe in Paris. There is a lovely fountain, called the Bailey Fountain, in the center of the Plaza. On weekends, the city opens the water spouts, and the fountain turns into a magical and cooling water extravaganza. Also notable is the John F. Kennedy monument, greeting visitors and residents at the northern entrance. Grand Army Plaza is a surprising urban oasis not only full of interesting historical monuments, but also plenty of shade-providing trees and lovely flowers and shrubs. The 2 & 3 subway lines stop at...
