an earnest place with a deeply confused vibe that at some points come off as a bit eerie. wandered in and was enthusiastically greeted by the loveliest staff and an extremely disjointed menu -- like... traditional chinese loose leaf tea with ... burgers? and fast cas lunchy rice dishes? and then ... souffle pancakes?????? all with a bubble tea window in the front, whose kiosks spill into the waiting area in a very unclear way. the bubble tea from the window is not on the inside menu, though staff will offer it if asked. a quick look through the old menus posted in the images of reviews show that the menu has been reworked every few months based on the owner's whimsy. it reminds me of children who play around and decide to LARP as a combination dinosaur x transformers x captain america x godzilla x airplane x (whatever else they like, regardless if it makes sense), and you're left wondering: ok.... how exactly does that come together? the curation on the menu is nonexistent, so the vibes of the menu are akin to slopping swedish meatballs over a caesar salad with a chocolate aioli and trying to pass it off as culinary innovation.
despite that, the staff were very sweet and kind and made the best of an otherwise slow period. the individual items we had were fine on their own and we were careful to choose a somewhat cohesive combo. everyone is working very hard to try to make it work, and I think whoever is the owner should do the staff and the resto a real one and pull together a better menu and more cohesive brand identity. I admire the earnestness of the staff in confronting the challenge that is selling a deeply strange menu, so in spite of it all, I'm giving five stars. the vision was clearly supposed to be "asian fusion bistro" and ended up as "the theme is 'because I want to' so I can" and it's time to roll it...
Read moreTrendy cafe/restaurant which gets food right. The aesthetics are clean, fresh, and light. Asian-american food with high Asian influence is served. Most dishes, including desserts lean towards the $20 average. We had salmon rice bowl and a soft shell crab burger. The burger did not come with fries and it does not need sides. Soft shell crab done to perfection. We had a 3 year old premium white peony tea. It has a light body, sweet, and delicate floral notes. Each order $12 comes with a small tea pot which holds 3 Asian Sized (not usual starbucks sized) tea cups. Teas are high quality, you need an experienced pallet to enjoy. If you are unsure of it, go for usual milk teas. For desserts, we ordered matcha souffle pancakes. They come as 3 small ones in a plate, are perfect, very mildly sweet. Note that the souffle pancakes will not look like the viral YouTube videos. Those viral pancakes with insane height means that pancakes are largely undone in the middle compared to American pancakes. The souffle pancakes served here strike a good balance. Great place to bring a girl gang. The place is on the expensive side as we paid about $120 for two people for an entree, tea, and a dessert per person. But given the fantastic quality and taste, I will...
Read moreAs someone who typically goes to the East Village for Burgers and Beers, I was pleasantly surprised to come across Little Uluh, which may share the name with its more established sister restaurant but should have a broad appeal to the East Village crowd. Even though there are hints of Asian influence Little Uluh has a decidedly more American iced menu, and I can't wait to try their brunch
With a bubble tea shop in front that is already a big hit, word is just starting to get out about the great Pan American food little Uluh is serving. We had delicious crispy honey wings with a nice salad. For dessert, we had a handmade souffle that was out of this world topped off by cappuccino
The ambiance and vibe is adorable, definitely a date worthy place, with ambient lighting, modern sleek designs and comfortable spacing between tables
Finally, I was told they will be building a full bar, which would definitely enhance the experience, and the setting would be perfect for bottomless mimosas or bloody Mary' over the weekend
Looking forward to seeing the place when it's operating at 100% - it will definitely make a valuable addition to the...
