I can attest to the rudeness of the employee who didnt bother to get off the line with Greg during our interaction. He was dismissive and not helpful at all. If it helps he has one blue eye and one brown eye. When I asked recommendations he was flippant. The tables appeared to be wiped down. The bathroom has a do not cross police like sticker tape on it to prevent non customers using it but it is very offputting for customers who legit paid for service. The guy behind the counter sneezed into his shirt twice and didnt sanitize or wash his hands which was interesting since he was so close to the food delivery station. I most likely would not return here if I didnt have multiple errands to run in this strip mall. The filet was disproportionate from the bun so more fish than bun. In addition I had to ask for a lemon wedge but they only did slices. Naturally would expect lemon with a fish sandwich. Underwhelming sauce on the fish sandwich. The tartar sauce is kens which feels like low hanging fruit, fresh tartar would be ideal. The fries were dangerously hot and the "cheese sauce" was the equivalent of velveeta. I found it odd it wasn't placed on top of the fries but I get speed trumps quality at this place. To be fair I got my meal under 5 minutes. The cod filet at alamo movie theatre was way better than this. This tasted like a Costco tilapia fried up too fast and fries with an inconsistent mandolin chopping job. Overall no one makes you feel welcomed or valued as a customer. Im expecting a wicked response from whoever manages this business account as I saw the lack of emotional intelligence or business acumen from other responses that gave candid feedback. Won't return anyway but happy to chat on how to improve restaurant management of this particular location. I can't speak to how the whole franchise is run. No one acknowledged me cleaning up my own table even when the grey haired guy with black glasses was out front sipping from a cup. Overall the experience is sloppy and I dont need to see more. Place had sparse patronage on a friday afternoon however that doesn't dictate the health...
Read moreI have been going to this place since it opened in Staten Island, and I'm going to continue going here when I'm in the neighborhood.
I see many people who've I have gone to the original with say either On a Roll is bad, or alternatively; the food isn't that good.
In comparison to nearly every local fast food restaurant; I consider On a Roll to have the best staff, service, and food by a mile.
Yes, the cheese kinda carries a lot of the food but that's one of the appeals of On a Roll.
I'd rate the chicken fingers a 5/5 and I'd have them over any local place like applebees any day of the week.
I'm more of a cheeseburger type person, and that's what I usually order. It's a big burger, but the condiments carry and I'd rate this burger a 4/5. I would personally prefer if they switched up their burger style to maybe a smash burger with cheez wiz since we've never seen that and a different type of beef, but I'm eating that regardless. It's tasty, and it's better than anything you're getting from Wendys, Mcdonalds, or any local diner if I'm being honest. I also kinda wish they had kosher dill pickles, but if you're looking for a crunch on your burger there are other alternatives that On a Roll does offer.
The fries.. those are an absolute classic. They're one of my top three favorite fries on the island, and the nostalgia hits me hard. It's a must have with the cheese.
The ironic part is that I have had legitimately everything from this place except the thing it's most famous for - the roast beef. I may try that sometime the next time I go, and I always recommend new people to the Island to On a Roll.
Also, they're one of the only places left with a ketchup dispenser, and the staff are some of the most friendly people you'll ever encounter.
Highly recommend, and I hope they stay in business for a long time. Affordable,...
Read moreWe came here for the first time about a month ago. We were super excited to try it as we love roast beef. We didn't know anything about the menu so we just decided to try a basic sandwich with gravy with some sides. We figured gravy is fairly thick, flavorful, and usually delicious so it should be good just like that. Well, we were wrong.
The sandwiches were luke warm at best, the roast beef was bland, and there was no sign of gravy anywhere on the sandwiches. They were disappointing, sad, and frankly a waste of money. The woman at the register didn't make any recommendations and seemed dismissive and curt while taking our order. At the very least cheese and onions could have be suggested as an add-on and would have brought the sandwich up from a 1/10.
I've had fantastic, hearty roast beef sandwiches for less from a good deli out here. I do not...
