The only bad Korean fried chicken experience I've ever had
The drinks are relatively cheap and decently made and that's about all this place has going for it.
I don't think this is a Pelicana chain issue- I've frequented two of their Manhattan locations and have never run into issues like we did when visiting this location.
The chicken at this location was not the piping hot, juicy-on-the-inside, crispy-on-the-outside standard I'm used to seeing from this brand. Our table had both wings and chicken breast were dry and not very flavorful other than the sauce slathered on the outside. I regularly get juicier chicken from Popeyes or even the boxes take-out Korean fried chicken from bb.q locations.
The lackluster food would have been less frustrating if not for the even more lackluster service. Our table's water was empty for about 55 minutes of the hour we spent there, and there wasn't anywhere near enough wait service presence to be able to get refills of any of the other drinks we ordered. One person at our table ordered a side of fries which didn't get made, and it took a pretty long time for them to come out once we asked about it. It was almost impossible to get our check taken care of- one of the friends I went to basically had to angrily tell to get the attention of wait staff after getting ignored several times while trying to politely flag them down. They accept credit card payments but only accept tips in cash, which is a bit weird and inconvenient. It worked out since we had cash but at this point I'm borderline regretting leaving a tip in the first place. Perhaps most insulting of all is the wipe given at the table, which you can see in the attached picture was about the size of a postal stamp. It honestly would have been less insane to just not bother giving out wipes at all. Any of these issues alone wouldn't have been a huge deal, but all of them added up and made for a really frustrating night as service was debilitatingly bad at pretty much every single turn. I usually understand that sometimes mistakes happen and that sometimes restaurants get busy, but I don't remember the last time I've actually felt legitimately upset with getting dinner somewhere like I did here.
Skip this dump and get some actually decent chicken in a servicable environment by checking out Turntable Chicken Jazz, bb.q chicken, or even the KTown Pelicana location which I've had 0 issues with in the past. The chicken at this location is just as expensive as other places but neither as tasty nor as good of an experience as any of those other places. I don't know if this place is just understaffed or what, but we walked away feeling frustrated and unsatisfied, which is a new experience for us when it comes to Korean fried chicken. Neither the food nor the service at this location is worth your...
Read moreThis is a review for the new open location at Ditmars Blvd in Astoria. For some reason is not showing up.
I based my rating on:
Service = 1 Cleaning = 1 Food quality = 0 Waiting time = 0 Overall satisfaction = 0
Service an attention was on point. I was looking at the board and one of the staff members came outside to show me the menu. One I walked in, you could tell what everyone was responsible for and they were very attentive and polite.
The place is brand new so the place is spot on and inviting to the customers. Although, I’d suggest to install one of those plastic protectors / double doors so the cold winds don’t get inside when someone opens the door.
Food was okay but nothing too impressive. If I’m trying a new place, I always ask for the “most common thing” on their cuisine. Even though the place is Korean, I asked the chicken fried rice (something you can get in every Asian cuisine) and to me that’s the bar- if you can nail that, then I’ll accept your “best Korean style fried chicken”. Anyway, it was nothing but a spoonful of rice and chicken but nothing that wowed me. They also, and for some reason, tossed green leaves like lettuce to make a salad just to fill space. Nope, nope, nope.
Given that it was only a pre-fried rice and chicken and it was only a spoonful and just a couple of lettuce and kale, I don’t feel like waiting 15 minutes for that is reasonable.
Not satisfied at all. I must say the staff was very engaging but after the disappointment with food, I just felt deceived. Unfortunately just the staff efforts are not worth of a $11 “meal”.
Would I come back? Probably...
Read moreStraight up this shop is my favorite place for korean style fried chicken wings because of three factors; the rest is small details. 1.Their frying oil is incredibly clean and I can taste only the chicken and breading the 2.quality of the chicken wings are very good and fresh and 3. their seasoning may be off sometimes but their breading-and-frying technique is dream/team/supreme/cashrules everything around me cream deliciouss yalll!!! Every bite is crispy plus a little spicy plus a very good moist chicken meat.
This statement applies to their spicy dry wings. I have been eating their chicken so much, I can tell there is a difference in seasoning/spice measurements. They have a soy garlic flavored wing that is an amazing 2nd place.
Coming in 3rd at bronze is their ugly spicy chicken. It is ugly the fact the portion size is always inconsistent. This isn't an issue that is new because of supply issues and inflation, their size of chickens that they give you for the sandwich has always been a hit or miss since i've been ordering when first opened. However you must at least order one sandwich per visit it is necessary! along with the order of spicy dry wings. The bread from the sandwich really helps with the spice of the wings Definitely pay for the extra pickled radishes to bring home because they taste even better after a few days. Make sure your hands are clean before and after this amazing meal it is so good its Finger lick.... no its once you pop the .... no the fun d....no don't no stop!!!! .
My go-to for sides is their...
