based on recommendations from a local Forest Hills fb group post we headed over to Queens Pita on Main St in Kew Garden Hills this afternoon for some Purim Hamantaschen. We bought halava, apricot, raspberry and apricot walnut oh and somehow a poppyseed one snuck into the box. So far the halvah is our surprise favorite! In general the cookie dough is delicious - the apricot flavor was a bit weak, raspberry excellent, poppyseed excellent and Halvah outstanding. Haven't tried the apricot nut one yet - hoping the apricot is more intense than it was in the plain apricot one. While we were there we also purchased two different kinds of challah. One an egg challah roll with assorted seeds and onion bits and the other a very pretty braided black pumpernickel and water challah mini with sesame seeds (pictured below). Both were uber fresh but personally we liked the egg challah the best. I would go for a bigger egg challah one next time. We also bought a few potato and mushroom mini bourekas, as well as a few stuffed with spinach and potato and just potato and verdict was "so so" not our cup of tea. We like the flakey filo cheese and spinach bourekas from Carmel on 108th much better. However there was another mini savory pastry next to these stuffed with very well caramelized onions that was really really really delicious. I think for 7 hamantaschen cookies, 2 small challah thingies and about 6 or so mini bourekas, we spent under $11. Seemed very reasonable and everything was super fresh and fun to try. Last time we were there was many years ago and they were a much smaller operation that specialized primarily in pita - they've expanded to twice the size and are really similar to the Glatt Kosher bakeries one finds in Hasidic Williamsburg or Boro Park Brooklyn. Saves me a trip to Brooklyn when I need this kind of Jewish bakery "stuff" They also had black and white cookies for anyone interested (I bet they have pink and white and blue/white ones too for baby showers and bris celebrations)

So stale! I bought a Tagelach yesterday for Yom Kippur and it was petrified! My guests couldnโ€™t even pull off 1 dough ball. Even the chocolate mandel bread was as dry as rye. Iโ€™m so disappointed and have been a customer for many many years. If I didnโ€™t live so far, Iโ€™d bring the items back.

Look at the comments and see the common themes of racism. I rarely leave poor reviews but the behavior here was absolutely unacceptable and should be brought to attention.

Came here with my girlfriend and spoke some chinese at an acceptable volume, and instantly noticed the old lady at the cash register giving us a death glare the entire time. We choose a cake indicated for Passover, and the woman is basically shouting at us that it's not a normal cake, but for a Jewish tradition. I don't even bother to inquire about what is different about a Passover cake because of her trash attitude, and my girlfriend proceeds to pay with apple pay as we get rung up. She instantly starts screeching at us that we've done some terribly wrong, and yelling at us that we've done something that should have been obvious (we paid with an amex card but there's no indication anywhere that amex isn't accepted). Obviously the payment goes through despite amex not being "allowed".

Then a nice Jewish couple indicates to us that Passover cakes are typically Gluten Free, and tell us other options that we could purchase that would be better. Even before I begin to ask the cashier about the other options, she immediately cuts us off and screams "NO, YOU ALREADY BOUGHT IT, NO IT'S DONE, GO".

What an absolutely awful person. I highly recommend not coming here if...

Not going to lie, the goods they sell here are delicious, but the attitude the staff gave is trash. Me and my mom went here the other day and we were met with nothing but unkind attitude and glares from the ladies by the counter. Towards the end, my mom asked for something extra last minute, only for the lady to scold us for no reason, and we were doing nothing out of the ordinary. Will not be coming back here as the two ladies that work there are garbage and could somewhat be racist.

Edit: recently went back to see if the staff was any different, and it seems they got new people who act much better. They made me feel welcome and didn't act like the old ladies like last time. Baked goods are good as always and will come back if the same people keep...
