I've been going to Regina's for years out of convenience, their ability to take credit card, and the fact that they give a student discount for St. John's students.
Pros: Parking is usually easy, food is usually ready fast and usually hasn't been sitting long
I stopped going to Regina's for a while after the boss hired new staff. I saw them spraying pesticide around (but not directly on) the counter, with food on it, while the store was still open. They didn't move the food at all or even clean afterwards, but I got over this because I thought it might be a food-safe pesticide and the fact that it wasn't sprayed directly on food-contacting surfaces. I started going back because there's no other pizza place close by that takes credit cards and is as cheap.
Let me start off by saying that the pizza tastes okay, but not great. For what it is, it's too expensive. Their hot plates and pastas are really nothing to write home about. I tried their baked ziti as well as penne a la vodka and both were usually overcooked on the outside, inconsistent, and burning hot inside. The bread sticks that they give with the hot plates sucks. Their calzones are far too oily, and their heroes are skimpy on cheese and sometimes have burned bread.
Before the staff changed over, I knew everybody and they were always kind and courteous. The food was good and the environment was relaxed. The new staff is simply rude. The manager doesn't speak and is always in his own world, and ignores people and gets an attitude when people talk to him. He always has a scowl on his face and never talks to customers.
I live 7 minutes away from Regina's in traffic, and they have delivered to me on a number of occasions without issues. I usually tip 4 or 5 dollars to the delivery driver consistently because I know it's just at the edge of where they will deliver. Tonight I placed an order, and the cashier took the order and billed my credit card with a 45 minute to an hour expected delivery time. Five minutes later I got a call back claiming that I lived too far away for them to deliver (7 minutes, straight down the block). I asked if they had already billed my credit card, and the cashier said yes but that he had already voided it.
When I spoke to the manager and explained that I live 7 minutes away in traffic, he did everything but call me a liar directly. He said that the charge had not yet been voided (meaning the cashier lied to me), and that they had never delivered to the address before (another lie). When I pushed the matter and said that they should honor the order this time since they already charged me, he said that he could deliver with an expected time of 45 minutes to an hour but that it would take longer than the previously given ETA (even though he gave me the same time). He then started saying that I wasn't listening to him because I was talking too much, and going back on his statements while being extremely rude to me. I told him to void the transaction because I was disgusted with him.
In addition to this, knowing that I speak with the former workers there, he started bad-mouthing the former delivery drivers to me. In all honesty, the food isn't anything more than average and doesn't even come close to being exceptional. The poor attitude displayed towards me and the inconsistency in service is a definite let down, considering that it has been the most convenient place for me to go for years. From now on, I'm going to spend the extra few dollars and go to Acquista Trattoria (two blocks away). Acquista has never served a dish that wasn't satisfying, even though they're more expensive. Anybody thinking about eating here should order from Acquista Trattoria or Romeo's Pizzeria instead. Yes these places will be on average $2 to $3 more, but they are far more consistent and serve food that is a world ahead...
Read morePrior to tonight, I was a regular picking up pizzas, some spinach and pepperoni rolls every few weeks. But after tonight I am not dealing with this absolutely atrocious service again. On a whim wanting to try something new, I placed an order on their Too Good To Go page, where they offer a deal for $5 to pick up any left over slices towards closing. Usually these places give out whatever is left for the day to avoid waste - but they denied me my order upon arrival.
Upon my pick up window, I drove over and asked for my order of unknown items and also a pepperoni roll to go as well (not asking for it to be included rather to be paid for at full price). I was hoping for a small assortment of surprise (varying) slices that is typically offered with such a deal - it would have been an opportunity to sample whatever variety is left and not worry about wasting too much money on it if I didn't care for it. If it's good, I would have likely ordered it in the future.
Instead, I was given an absolutely discourteous response of my order being cancelled - that there wasn't any available for tonight's order. That being said the establishment was empty with several trays with pizza behind the counter. This seems to be their behavior now since their rating on TGTG went from 4.x to a mere 3.5 in a matter of 2 weeks and other sites with reviews have reported similar ill-mannered behavior.
I will now be boycotting this place with already mediocre pizza and seek out other establishments simply due to their refusal to honor something...
Read moreIt's beginning of June 2021, pandemic is waiting it's a rainy Thursday afternoon and here I am at Regina's pizzeria. Just looking for a quick bite grab the square of a nice Sicilian very very nice. And also had meatball parmesan hero. In New York we call them heroes did not stops. They have seating inside now as the wall restaurants but it's not crowded and they also have their outside on the street semi-enclosed seating. They deliver I just saw a delivery man going out with us to be about 5 or 6 pizzas.
It's diagonally across the street from the northeast corner of the St John's University campus, as a result you'll see people in here wearing St John's gear t-shirts jackets you name it. I suspect that during the school year a normal school year they get a lot of students as customers.
The pizzeria restaurant and it's more than just a pizzeria so it's kind of nice little place is wheelchair accessible even roll right in, it does have restrooms , and if you pushed it it has Wi-Fi. The issue with the Wi-Fi is a really not set up for what to be customer friendly. They said they'd have to go downstairs and look at the box which I suspect is the Wi-Fi access points / modem to get the passwords. They don't have any clue as to how to set it up and make it Regina's pizzeria Wi-Fi or something similar. But they were willing to do it and since I had access to another Wi-Fi from this location I said no I don't bother they had to go to the basement to fix it. Friendly and a good place to get...
