Read moreNew Thai restaurant in the neighborhood. Upon entering the restaurant you can see the industrial decor along with the hand drawn artwork on the walls that leave you with a very homely feel. The items that were ordered were chive pancakes, southern thai fried chicken, tom yum soup, pad thai with tiger prawns, and spicy thai basil with chicken over rice. Starting with the appetizers, the chive pancakes were an absolute delight; deep fried crisp on the outside with a nice soft texture inside coming along with a sweet mild flavored soy/vinegar sauce. The southern thai fried chicken was fried to perfection, a offering of a small drumstick along with a whole chicken breast. The breast meat was a tad too dry for my taste however the sweet and spicy sauce that came with the dish made up for the dryness. The tom yum soup was quite delicious although not quite the traditional taste that I have come to know, perhaps a bit on the mild side on flavor so as to accustom a wider audience. Next we have the main dishes the pad thai with tiger prawns, what sets this dish apart from other pad thai dishes are that they leave the accoutrements on the side for you to add at your own leisure, you can fix in your own amount of peanuts, bean sprouts and spices. The noodles were stir fried very well, not too oily and bustling with flavor, it was served along side one large grilled tiger prawn in the shell and 4 smaller prawns. The larger grilled tiger prawn was quite the visual however a bit lacking in the flavor department. The highlight of the main courses came with the spicy thai basil with chicken over rice dish. The dish is served with a nice over-easy egg on top and when you break into the yolk and let the yolk run, incorporate all the flavors with a nice big scoop of rice to deliver a perfect bite of spicy goodness. The staff at this restaurant is not only attentive but very friendly and accommodating. While finishing up my meal I was asked for my critique on the several dishes that were ordered and was met with a true sense of gratitude for voicing my honest opinion whether it was positive or negative. Let me say, I will return to this charming little restaurant to give their other dishes a try and give more feedback. The owner thanked me and offered a nice dessert as a reward for the feedback, a thai iced tea flavored ice cream with shredded egg yolk on top. A perfect way to end the evening. Hoping to see this restaurant get the recognition...
Read moreHad a wonderful dinner at Sup Thai tonight. It opened just a month ago, and showcases lovely decor, a welcoming atmosphere, and excellent service.
My best friend and I both ordered the Drunken Noodles dish to try. I usually try not to order the same exact dish as the person I'm dining with in order to try a variety of dishes, but the last time I ordered a Pad See Ew and she ordered the Drunken Noodle dish at Kin'd Thai, I ended up wishing I had ordered the drunken noodle dish during the entire meal. Kin'd Thai's drunken noodle dish was much more flavorful than Sup Thai's, but that's not to say that Sup Thai's dish wasn't good. Our portion came with a large amount of chicken mixed within as well. I do recommend putting a little more spice into the dish, as the menu showcased 2 pepper signs for the dish, but it really wasn't that spicy at all.
We also really liked their butterfly pea flower tea drinks! We hadn't heard of it before we got to try it today, so the staff took the time to show us how the unbrewed tea looked like and explained what it was. Learning about, trying something new, and liking it enough to want to order it again the next time is a + in my book.
The staff were super friendly and attentive (each and every one stopped by our table during our meal at separate times to ask how the food was and if we wanted more hot sauce in our drunken noodles). Not necessary to ask more than once how our meal is going, but we appreciated their effort. Water refills were plentiful and the staff happily did so each time.
For dessert, we ordered their homemade durian ice cream topped with gold egg yolk thread. Never tried the gold egg yolk thread before either - so good!! It's made from eggs, but tasted sweet - a great topping for their A+++ durian ice cream. It tasted just like fresh durian that you would freeze at home in the summer time, except without the pit or spiky/slimy hassle during preparation.
Sup Thai is a great addition to the Queens area; we will definitely be back again to try the other dishes and desserts! Plus, parking wasn't hard to find on a weekday night - you can easily find spots within 5 minutes...
