This store is, frankly, disgusting. From horrible upper management to stupid rule changes, none of it makes sense, and has created what may be the most toxic and gross work environment out of any establishment like it.
Let's start with the management. While the supervisors are better now than they were a few months ago, it's still far from perfect. For one, there aren't enough of them. I've waited up to 8 minutes just to get one type in or price adjustment, because there aren't enough supervisors to help around the store. Sometimes I'd still have to wait a couple minutes for help even when the store is not that busy, because some of the supervisors just love to talk and be on their phones at the podium when they should be doing their jobs. The two sales floor managers, on the other hand, are actually quite good. They're nice, understanding, and do their jobs consistently well. Upper management, however, is awful. They're constantly denying problems the store itself has because it would negatively impact either their own public perception, or the bottom line. When a corporate higher up came to the store and one of the register computers were acting up, the branch manager flat out lied and said that it had just started having issues recently (the computers are well over a decade old and have been having issues for a long time, he's just a greedy liar). Instead of investing a little bit of the fortune the store makes per month on new equipment to make it easier for everyone, he would much rather sit on all of those complaints, collecting bonuses from corporate.
While what I've previously stated about this hell hole is already reprehensible enough, it gets worse. There is a current manager working at this Restaurant Depot location who just loves to inappropriately touch the female supervisors/managers for all the customers to see. He's been doing it for months, and due to that fact, I'm just going to assume that management doesn't care, which is disgusting. There was another manager who used to work at this location and, while what she did may not be as gross as the previous guy, it's still concerning that management let it slide. I'm just gonna cut right to the chase: she would snort cocaine mid shift, in front of customers and employees. When she was on the stuff, she was nice and helpful. When she was coming down, she was next to useless. Thankfully she quit on her own terms recently, but the fact that she wasn't fired is yet another massive blunder on the part of management.
Management loves to keep their lips shut about new rules employees have to follow as well. There's a cart near the registers called the "junk cart", and it's main purpose is to store a bunch of junk items the store can't sell anymore (expired items, broken items, etc.). Originally, employees were able to take anything from it if they were hungry/thirsty, like chips or soda. They had recently made a change to the rules, basically saying that employees could only take water from the junk cart, which would be fine if they told us about that rule change. Instead, they stayed quiet on the change, and outright fired someone because they took an energy drink from the cart, even though this person did not know about the rule change because management said nothing about it. Oh, and remember when I said that they can't (or at the very least shouldn't) be selling the items that end up on the junk cart? Our old friend, the branch manager, doesn't care. He will sell expired and broken items to people who are willing to pay for them. By the way, the people who purchase these expired and/or damaged items own stores or restaurants themselves. The branch manager does not care if people get sick, he only cares about money.
If you are looking for a job, do not apply to work for this store. It is an absolute nightmare. I know the job market in NYC is tough right now, but trust me, you do not want to work for...
Read moreWe had a hard time returning three cases of expired burgers. Fine, we didn’t realized those were on a special bc was expired, so we bought. We getting at our restaurant we realized it was expired so we didn’t want to served. We live and have a restaurant in Brooklyn, so we always shop at the Fort Hamilton location. The only reason we went in the masphet location is bc they had the burgers we usually buy but wasn’t available at our usual location. Anyway, after a week we went to return, the items was expired May 30 and we bought on June 09. According to the manger its okay to sell expired frozen food. He even said we could call FDA, (witch I did right after I left) but I wasn’t willing to sell my costumers expired food. And if we have a DOH inspection it wouldn’t look good. I told the manager that we were shoppers for more than five years and we never had a problem, so would be nice if he could do something about it. He said ok and then went to check on our history and came up with “wow you are shoppers for five years and only spend $200” that means they don’t have access to our entire history despite the location we buy, and it doesn’t matter you shouldn’t treat a costumer like that. Very unprofessional, and frustrated man, zero costumer service skills, and he would eat the expired food, so take it back at make it to yourself or resell if you say it’s fine. I haven’t been in that location for years, and I probably won’t do it again. Too bad this is not a Corp, it’s own by a one single person, (and this one guy in millionaire enough to care) otherwise they would have better costumer service skills, at least. All locations has a poor costumer service, but I never had a problem when it comes to expired food. And not mention the manager was very demanding and saying we are not allowed to buy anything on special again. This can be a...
Read moreIf I could give it a zero stars, I would. I have been coming here for 5+ years, spending an average of $500 each time. On my last trip, I asked a worker for a specific item that I had been buying there for half a decade, he was extremely rudely and told me it has never been sold and proceeded to get more aggressive and agitated. He ended off by saying something about “Daddy Trump taking care of people like me.” When I spoke to the manager they completely brushed it off and said they weren’t able to identify who the worker was. The “HR” person in charge is an extremely unprofessional woman with 10 inch long pink nails who just kept interrupting me when I was trying to speak, clapping her hands. The only thing they said was that they couldn’t share with me what was going to happen to this disgruntled employee due to “protocol.” DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO DISRESPECTED WHILE TRYING TO BUY FOR YOUR BUSINESS. Reported them to the BBB, have told many business organizations across NYC about my experience and many places have agreed to boycott this...
