Hidden Restaurant in NYC, Rudar Club. Home Style Croatian Food in Astoria, Queens. The signage looks like a private soccer club but it’s open to the public. Address: 34-01 45th Street Astoria, NY . . . #newyork #nyc #explorenyc #visitnyc #nycfood #croatia

Hidden gem of a Croatian restaurant. The doorway looks intimidating (solid and you can't see in) but head on inside and you'll find a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The restaurant is downstairs (upstairs is a bar area). To start we got the istrain bean and barley soup with sausage. It was really delicious, especially the smokey, garlicy sausage. Then for mains we got the bowtie pasta and the gnocci. All the pastas are handmade in house and you can tell, they have a great chewy texture. We got them with the veal sauce, which was ok and had a lot of veal, but wasn't quite as good as the pasta. Next time I'd try a different sauce. Also got swiss chard and potato on the side, which had a bit of a potato salad vibe to it. Crepes for dessert were cheap and tasty, with sugar and lemon or Nutella. Service was very friendly and we're happy to guide us unfamiliar with the cuisine through the menu.

Went to this underground restaurant for my first dinner. Knew all about the history etc. My Croatian friends frequent here and it’s like old school home for them. The gnocchi with veal was excellent. The veal was like butter and the flavor was great. Our server Tina was terrific. Attentive and accommodating. The whole idea of coming here was to experience something different. Local to Croatian culture and fare. Simple and homelike and thats what we found. Our veal entree with mushrooms was a bit too salty but portions were generous. Prices very good as well All in all I thoroughly enjoyed a “different” dining experience that reminded me of a throw back in time with bang for the buck and old school atmosphere.

This is an old school croatian club/restaurant. It's such a hidden gem!. You really feel like you are in a old world kitchen/restaurant. Our server was so kind, helpful and welcoming. The food was surprisingly good! We had the mixed grill plate, veal gnocci and black squid ink risotto. It was soooo soooo sooo good. The flavors were simple but well developed. We also had a bottle of Croatian red wine which was great. Highly reccomend this restaurant for a taste of homestyle, restaurant quality...
