Southern Girls Soul Food — Restaurant in New York

I wish I would have read the reviews! This was a first time ordering from this place on Seamless and spent over $100.00. The delivery driver arrived and told us that as he pulled up, that the business called and said they forgot to include half of the order, which was a tray of whiting, and two containers of Mac & Cheese. I called the business with him standing on the porch, and the first person who answered transferred me to a second person. The second female was obnoxious and rude. She was on speaker and I told her they forgot to give the driver half of our order. She yells back, "No, the driver forgot it." I told her she was on speaker and the driver was still here listening. She responds, "AND!" She then tells us he should have delivered two bags. I told her he did deliver two bags and the other half of the order wasn't there, so I asked if there were three bags? Instead of apologizing or confirming the amount of bags, she just said hold on and transferred me to a third woman. The last woman was more pleasant. She apologized, and I told her I would come get the rest of the order, but I'm coming from Hempstead, and her restaurant is in Laurelton, so it's going to take a while. She said no problem and they are closing up, but she would put the order in the oven to keep it warm and include a desert for our trouble. I got in my car, drove 15 minutes to the restaurant, and found it closed with the metal gate down. I called the number I spoke to her on, and it went straight to voice-mail. Seamless refunded us for the missing items and gave us an additional $10 credit because of the inconvenience of having to burn gas and drive a total of 30 minutes and still not have our entire order. This was after we left our deliver driver a $30 tip because we knew it was a long drive for him to make.

The food that was delivered: 1 full rack of ribs, collards, two small rice and black-eyed peas, and one small cabbage.

Much of the food lacked flavor. The ribs were tender but were drenched in sauce. The collards and Mac & cheese lacked flavor. We also found that the food didn't quite agree with some of our stomachs.

Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant and hope they at least improve their...

Service was terrible. We ordered ahead about an hour in advance in an effort to avoid the wait. I get there and let them know I ordered online told them the name and they couldn’t find the order. They ask what I ordered seeing as I am not the one who made the order I didn’t know exactly what was ordered. My mother who placed the order came into the restaurant after me and let them know what it was we ordered. We were then told that the dark meat chicken we ordered we would have to wait for or have it replaced with white meat. We decided to wait the 10 mins they told us which turned into 30. Whilst I waited the waiting area filled with angry patrons both with Uber eats/call ins and those who ordered inside. There was insane confusion seeing as either names weren’t on orders or orders weren’t ready. Finally my order was called again it had been brought out by a cook who then when went back to the kitchen, the woman who was stationed at the register who was on and off of the phone sees this and continues her conversation. Finally she ends her call looks at my order walks past it and comes directly to me. She says “hi, how are you doing” seeing as I was previously asked this question 3 times by the staff including her the last time we spoke within the 2 hours I had been waiting, I ignored her question and said “ma’am my order is right there can I get please.” She asked again and I responded “ma’am she put my order right behind you on the counter can I get it please” she apparently took offense to this and said “ok then she can help you” and walked back to the register. I then had to wait another 8-10 minutes for the cook to come back out with another order and call her before she ran back to the kitchen, I let her know what had happened and she looked at the cashier in disbelief. She finally did a 180 to get my order and gave it to me in literal seconds. She said nothing to the other woman and instead got me condiments and that was the end of the interaction. I am generally disgusted by the terrible customer service and by the sounds of the surrounding customers so were they. If I could give zero...

The fried chicken and fish are cooked to order which is nice because you receive fresh food. You will wait which is fine because they indicate this on the menu board. However, the wait was much longer than they verbally indicated. We almost waited an hour for the food. It was a to go order. I know they were working on a lot of orders but it sounded like a lot of talking between the front desk staff and behind the scenes staff. That might not have been the hold up. But when you're waiting longer than anticipated, you begin to speculate. Also, if you are waiting. The area is large enough to accomodate a small table for a water station setup or sweet tea setup. Offer something it will take the edge off and it's good customer service. Lastly, we made sure to ask what was available and what food items was no longer available since it was late. Late meaning approx. 6pm on a Sunday evening. They gave a run down and I ordered accordingly. After waiting approx. 30 minutes, I hear them tell a new customer, no more green beans. I go back up, show my ticket and requested for them to check on my 2 orders which had green beans. Was my order affected? She checked and said yes. Now I'm waiting for almost an hour and you will tell me that my order can't be completed because something ran out. So I ask what the alternatives were, ordered it and they updated the order. I suggested for them to review everyone's order and inform customers if anything is sold out, so orders can be updated.This is basic customer service.

So they receive 3 stars due to long wait, nothing offered to the customers waiting and lack of communication to the customer when their ordered food item runs out and updating customer if the wait is longer than originally stated.

Chicken, fish, potato salad and macaroni and cheese were delicious. Especially the potato salad. The collard greens were ok. Just some tweaks to the greens and they would be perfect.

Overall decent experience but if they correct what is mentioned above...they would be the top restaurant...
