A solid 3.5 in my humble review book.
Painted outside in white and blue for some reason The Alcove reminded me of a little fishing village hut. I'm glad they chose those colours otherwise it would have blended easily into the neighborhood, making it hard to locate without GPS.
Seating is available outside but in the 2019 summer humidity I opted for AC which was suitably advertised out front. Cute.
I usually sit at the bar but I didn't have a choice because it's really so cute and tiny in there. It's like dining at your family's dinning table. If your family is small. So cute!
Tried their pineapple mojito and I enjoyed. Also tried their famous lollipop skirt steak. I like! Iono though, some pieces were super tender and juicy while others were tough as chit. I'm guessing probably different parts of the meat. Had a carne-asada house salad and that too was good. The fries the fries THE BLOODY FRIES! It came with some type of seasoning and ma gorsh! Slap yuh mama goodness!
I took a few pics that doesn't even start to give the spot credit. I was more enamored with the quaintness of The Alcove more than anything else though so I really tried.
Staff so nice and friendly.
The neighborhood, though loads of restaurants and pubs to choose from hasn't lost its "old neighborhood" charm. It's like the gentrification committee hasn't quite put a lot of consideration into that area.....yet. fingers...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreItās been quite sometime since I wrote a review. But I feel compelled this time around. My sister came by with my 7 month old nephew on Friday and with covid she has been hesitant to eat out especially with the baby. But we found Alcove and weāre immediately drawn in. They have margarita and Mojito and tequila flights! All really really good. The steak lollipops were absolutely amazing. The chimichurri is out of this world!!! Put it on everything! The chicken quesadilla was really hood, but was surprised to find lettuce and tomatoes in it (it was on the menu but I missed it). The quac was really good, gave some to the baby, the soup was superb, probably the best Iāve ever had. The truffle garlic bread was also good, but nothing to write home about. The staff was amazing, so attentive and patient, everyone helps and takes orders, thereās no Iām not your server here, it was a breath of fresh air! Hereās the cherry on top, my nephew started getting fussy before dessert so we decided to take churros and a Mojito to go. It was starting to rain so we were trying to rush out and took our left overs but forgot the churros. One of the waiters ran a block and a half, in the rain to make sure we got the churros, you sir are a hero, thank you!! Will be back with the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSoā¦I had booked a birthday brunch at a snazzy rooftop spot in LIC only to leave almost as soon as we got there due to atrocious service and obscenely loud, ear-splitting club music two inches away from my head AND with a guy playing squealing megaphone-loud electric violin. Hard pass. So we canceled the entire birthday party and hauled the crew over to this amazing little gem, The Alcove. It was a last minute Google-Maps decision, and we donāt regret it one bit.
So now for the actual review: the warm greeting we received coming in, the attentive and friendly service, the bonkers good cocktails (bloody Maria to DIE for), and the food were all supremely amazing, and the prices were no less than half of what we were gonna shell out at the loud unfriendly place. Also, the music was calming, Sunday-brunch perfect Yacht Rock, at a volume that allowed conversation. This experience reminds me of how much I love local, charming little spots and generally avoid those super-polished, rude elevator attendant, thumping torture music places lol.
We will most definitely be back to this...
