The Sandwich Shop Staten Island — Restaurant in New York

Original Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich - It is good but it is very skimpy. It cost $14.15 (with tax) and is, at best, a $9 sandwich. If you are hungry this will not do the job.

If it were a $9 sandwich, this would be somewhat acceptable, but if you spend $14+ on a TAKE OUT sandwich, I believe one should expect to be satisfied with regards to their hunger when it’s gone.

Being skimpy with the preparation of Original Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich is “penny wise & dollar foolish” (from a business perspective), I believe. A $14 TAKE OUT sandwich should completely satisfy a man’s hunger, and this sandwich will have you asking “where’s the beef?”

On a separate note: I do not know why The Sandwich Shop uses that cheap spongy hero bread for their heros. There are so many places on Staten Island to get good bread. Freddie’s in Eltingville is an example and is nearby The Sandwich Shop. “The Bread” is often the deciding factor for me when I make a choice of where to go, and maybe I am not alone in this regard.

Having gotten the criticism out of the way, I want to say that I have had many things from The Sandwich Shop’s menu and everything is excellent but if you are hungry, I would recommend the Bacon Cheeseburger (over the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich), which is also expensive ($12 with tax) but it will not leave you still feeling hungry and wanting more when you are done.

My family previously ate at The Sandwich Shop and loved the food. My father recently passed and we held his burial upstate NY. Due to COVID and dining restrictions, we decided to place a large order from The Sandwich Shop, and bring it upstate with us. We could at least hand out some food for our friends and family to eat prior to the long returning drive back to Staten Island and surrounding areas. The Sandwich Shop did an amazing job and really went above and beyond. They cut, wrapped, and labeled the sandwiches in halves. They provided extra utensils, napkins, etc. that we didn’t even ask for. They continued to express their condolences from beginning to end and were very friendly. No exaggeration these are the best sandwiches we have ever tasted! the ingredients are top quality and fresh. we had the Cuban and the bacon cheese and egg sandwiches and potato salad. The potato salad was absolutely delicious tasted like mine and I’m really proud of my recipe lol. The meats in the Cuban are perfect, the roast pork was from a real roast that tasted like it just came out of the oven. the pink ham was fresh and sliced thin, very nice.
