Out and about in the bronx hanging with my sister from another mother Alex and her son, my nephew, Chris. We decided to go and check out the new restaurant, "ugly dumpling" at Bay Plaza. It was an awesome experience. Beautiful atmosphere, roomy and can accommodate a lot of people. We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in and it was wonderful to see such a diverse staff in a "Chinese restaurant". They even have a dumpling lab so you can see them making the dumplings. Our waitress, Chiara, did an excellent job explaining different items on the menu. And during our visit several members of the staff kept checking to see how everything was going. We ordered a little bit of everything ribs, soy wings(really good), dumpling platter, pork chop fried rice, orange chicken, braised beef soup, crystal dumplings, chicken dumplings and spring roll😆 The food was hot, delicious and came out very quickly 😋. I'd definitely recommend going and checking it out for yourself. We'll definitely be going back to try some of the other menu items that we didn't try this time. A beautiful afternoon with...
Read morethis spot is a treasure trove of delicious food; my bestie & I dined here after a quick shopping romp @ the Bay Plaza mall & when I tell you that we damn near inhaled the food the moment it hit the table, please believe it. we ordered the edamame, salt & pepper popcorn chicken, fried pork chops, & bao buns for appetizers & it was love @ first bite & Demarys was more than knowledgeable w/ the menu as she guided us on what drinks would go great w/ our food choices: for me, the peach iced tea (yum) w/ mango boba (which I enthusiastically passed on because I’m not boba’s biggest fan. not sorry about it) & for bestie the passion fruit fruity yogurt drink w/ strawberry popping boba (which I rid try & must admit the boba did give the drink a boost, still not a gan though!) After stuffing our faces w/ chicken soup dumplings & green tea noodles w/ spicy sauce for entrees we had no choice but to take dessert home. I cannot wait to dig into the NY style cheesecake w/ a fortune cookie topping & the chocolate chip lava cookie as soon as this uber...
Read moreWe had a great time dining at Ugly Dumpling. The food was authentic and amazing. We had the Sesame Noodles, the Fried Pork Chop appetizer, and the Shrimp/Pork/Spinach soup dumplings and everything was very delicious. And this is coming from a Chinese guy. We also had the Yogurt Lychee drink which was also great. Food came out pretty quick too.
Our server Gabby was attentive, nice, and very hardworking in the chaos of Saturday night dinner rush. The front of house was also very friendly.
Prices were very reasonable and I’m happy to see more authentic Chinese options in the Bronx, which helps us avoid a trip to Flushing. Most dishes were between $10-20.
They are a new establishment and seemed to be open for about a week so they’re still getting the hang of things.
Some suggestions for the owners for better efficiency, is to provide more space between the tables by the bar (table 034 area). Waitstaff and diners seemed to have problems moving...
