This place is not the same. If you've lived in throggs neck for a long time you know how the original owners made their food. After covid this spot was never the same. The people making the food aren't even Japanese, they're Chinese. So that just tells me that new owners took over. They switched up the menu, they no longer serve items like beef negimake or specialty rolls like their famous Sushi Sandwich. The vegetable fried rice was a staple here, full of flavor and made with love. Now its bland, and isn't even made with the same rice as before and features new ingredients that weren't in the original. The food is not horrible, honestly, its just okay. If you were to ask me, this place isn't japanese food anymore. And as hard as they try they will never be. I understand that this is common in nyc and that plenty of asian restaurants can be run by different nationalities. But this felt like an attach on a restaurant that I felt so lucky to be in the vicinity of. Its sad to see what the place has become. No offense to the new owners of course, but as you can tell by the nature of this review, I prefer the old owners hands down. All in all when it comes down to it, the food is decent. Im sure when you pair the rice with some teriyaki or some sort of hibachi combination, it will be good. Would i recommend this place if youre looking for authentic japanese cuisine? Probably not, youre better off going to a place like Sushi Q...
Read moreNot from the neighborhood, but just left the medical center and needed food and drink before heading home, I was fasting all day for bloodwork. The acrylic service station right up against the door deterred me from staying. The message was obvious "no indoor patrons", from the sight of it. I was looking for a quiet, solo sit-down dinner. These are moments I appreciate. For a split second, I wondered whether or not to order, but despite the service woman that arrived quickly, with the best smile she could muster, I didn't feel welcomed. So I walked out. It appears to be take-away only. I could understand why, but COVID and the political climate has changed things that even going out to dinner feels overbearing. It's sad. Just got on the bus, I'll eat when I...
Read moreNice place, pleasant people. A few notes for the owner. 1) the music choice was terrible.; 2) both the wasabi and the ginger were oddly neon colored and not flavorful. Consider changing brands .; 3) the fish was tasty and fresh but the pieces were HUGE. Consider slicing half as thick. It will look like more on the plate and customers will not need to choke on them. The Combo Platter was ample, to be sure. However, the menu indicated a Spicy Tuna Roll. It was not but, rather, a nondescript roll of unknown stuff in the middle. 4) the Miso soup was very tasty; 5) soft shell crab was over breaded and over cooked. The interior was pleasing and...
