I’ve always eaten at this bakery because of the variety and quality of food. The last couple times that I went there the same server waited our table, and she always looks like she hates her life and treats us like it. Came in on a Sunday morning for breakfast and as my family was leaving my wife forgot her candy at the table, not even one minute and they threw it out, no worries, that happens. But when my wife went to ask the waitress, she replied, ‘ when you leave the table, nothing is yours, I saw you leaving’ so if I had forgotten my phone she would have thrown it out too? I wasn’t expecting another candy because thank God I have more than enough to buy more, but the arrogance and stupidity of a 40 plus year old woman that still doesn’t know how to wait a table made the bakery lose a costumer that has been going there for years. Btw, our food was cold, I asked to reheat it and it was returned the same temperature, we had to go to the counter to ask for the check and boxes because she wouldn’t even bother to stop as ask how we were doing.
Read moreIf you are in the area and looking for a savory Brazilian experience, this is the place to go. They have cakes and sweets, burgers, pizzas, and lots of other things. Unfortunately, I don't live close by so when I get to go there, I have to be wise on my picks and grab for me and for people I love haha. So I got French bread - similar to the Portuguese roll, but much more similar to what we have in Brazil, one cheese pastel - it is a think heavenly dough filled with lots of cheese, a coxinha which is a potato dough filled with seasoned chicken and catupiry, and a slice of coconut and chocolate cake. They also gave me a bolinho de chuva to try. This is a simple flour dough fried and then covered with sugar and cinnamon. Read carefully, everything was delicious! So much filling in the pastel and the coxinha. The bolinho de chuva was soft and fresh. If anything, the cake could be a bit fresher. It did taste a little like it was sitting there for a couple of days (I recommend picking a slice of one whole cake). I have been to different bakeries, and I still prefer...
Read moreI visited the Bread of Life (Pão da Vida) on Oliver Street for the first time today with a friend. We approached the counter and picked up a menu to view the offerings. I chose a $7.00 Mutamba sandwich and paid for it at the tablet on the counter. I looked at my receipt and was charged $8.08 for the sandwich and a gratuity of $1.09. When I questioned the gratuity the cashier called over another woman who said a 10% gratuity (really 15%) was added because we were going to sit at a table. My friend looked at her receipt and the same thing happened to her. In addition there were also two enormous TIP barrels in front of the register. The food was good but getting ripped off by charging me more than the stated menu price PLUS sneaking in a 15% gratuity makes this place a one and done for us. There are way too many great places to eat Down Neck (Ironbound) to patronize a shady business such...
