This little place is a hidden gem right off of Ferry St., Newark. We had read great reviews about the service, food quality, seafood options, etc., and decided to give it a try. We waited for close to an hour (7ish on a Friday) to be seated. We decided to wait , again all those glowing reviews. We could not have been happier! A truly outstanding experience. Every single person, especially Tony, on the wait staff, was exceptional and attentive. Our food was fresh, (grilled squid, garlic shrimp, and cod) seasoned perfectly, and cooked exactly as expected. Only disappointment was they had sold out of the grilled octopus…just another reason to come back! Although this is not a quiet, romantic, formal restaurant ( go elsewhere if that’s what you’d like) you are made to feel like family as soon as you enter the establishment. The staff and patrons are truly kind and welcoming. We shared sangria with a group next to us. They shared desserts with us. Tony and the waiters took very good care of us the entire evening. We are absolutely planning on going here again and hope you will give...
Read moreToday's Specials on the wall flashed between English and Portuguese, and featured maybe 10 kinds of seafood as well as steaks and chops. Arrived 7pm Friday night and had to wait a little while for a table but glad we did. Was flummoxed by the Portuguese cod tongues, veal liver, and cow knuckles on the menu and maybe ordered wrong. Sopa de marisco was pretty good, liked the garlic croutons, not the piece of imitation seafood so much. Veal marsala was more than I could eat, which is great, came covered in sautéed mushrooms and the sauce they use on bitoque or bife a portuguesa, but not real inspired. I think next time I'll order something grilled. Some of our Visconde de Borba red wine remained and we were glad for the queijo de serra with marmelada for dessert, though cheese came a little cold, not room temperature. All in all it was a very pleasant satisfying meal. Friendly service, helps to speak Portuguese, tables are kind of close together, can be loud at times,...
Read moreA very welcoming small Portuguese restaurant that caters to their local community but, once you go there you will be coming back.
Food is fresh and made to order with many Portuguese and Spanish favorites. We started with shrimp and garlic . It was very tasty and I like the fact that they devein and butterfly them before serving. The other dish was cockles in a wine garlicky green sauce which invites you to dip your bread into that luscious sauce.
The table had Halibut in a sauce served with boiled potatoes and broccoli robe. The main attraction was the seafood plate of steam lobster, logostino, grilled shrimp, clams, mussels, calamari and more. This fed four.
Good selection of wine, beers and spirits as well as coffee and dessert.
Parking is very hard to find but, they do have a small lot but, it will be filled fast.
Prices are comparable and service is good but, you will have to wait so enjoy your meal since they don’t rush you.
Btw, the place is packed and...
